Adding a Power Amp to a Vintage Pioneer SA-7500 amp

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I am the new old guy on the block getting back into vinyl putting my old  Marantz 6170 TT back to work.

I recently got a Pioneer SA-7500 40 wpc  using a pair of JBL Northridge E60.

I can only play at 30-40% of the volume before the sound starts to clip/distorts.

I was wondering if getting a higher rated (100-150 watts) power amp and use together with the SA-7500 would give me a better results. not necessary louder but get more out of the speakers.

I was also wondering of the SA-7500 might be tired and time for recap? Is there a way to verify if is time for a components upgrade?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions and advise.

Marcio

Amp needs a basic health check, open it up, visual inspection for any stressed components, especially in the power supply. Then check offset, bias and power rails are all in order. Reads like the amp is tired rather than running out of power, 40W should be reasonably ok.
