Amazon Music HD Discussion Thread

Featured Replies

To save anyone else wasting time.......  After reading last months PC Mag online article inferring that Ultra HD is available in Oz!

It isn't.

They told me that they are "working on it".    So, I guess we all still have to put up with Tidal..... unless you have a vpn, I suppose.

I currently have Qobuz and the free trial of Amazon. Going through a Blusound Powernode 2i.   Integration with the Blusound app is very poor (as another member pointed out). But sound qualit

  • I actually enjoyed the Amazon Music trial but just cancelled due to the payment per stream to artists, as shown in the Spotify thread. I'll stick to Qobuz. It's an issue that, as music lover

  • I've compared with Qobuz and Tidal, Amazon music is (slightly) bright and sounds a little coloured on the transparent side. If you've ever heard a Cirrus Logic DAC chip it reminds me of that, quite en

My boo boo

I've been using Unlimited, I hate the UI. I prefer the Tidal interface. If they have a black Friday deal I'll switch back.

Even though that's PC Mag Australia, all the pricing is US dollars. The author of the article is New York based.

HD isn't available here in Oz yet.

Yeah, double checked. Definitely not. Trailing Tidal ATM.

Amazon music HD is now available in Australia, $11.99/month with 3 months free for new subscribers.

Thanks for the heads up! Got it working straight away.

Sounds clean!

Good news this week for Australian customers of Amazon Music, with Unlimited customers now able to listen to spatial audio on more devices than ever before.

Regarding "Steve Boom, vice president of Amazon Music, told StereoNET:"

Can StereoNet ask Steve Boom when Amazon Music HD is coming to Oz?

So that's what caught be by surprise. It seems it has and they have not made a big song and dance about it?

I signed up just to check and I am definitely able to access Ultra HD content. Get the free 3 months trial and tell me if I'm going crazy?

Wowza, this is big news if true. I'll try myself soon.

Yep it's definitely here. Playing at my end too.

Worthy of front page news !

Everything is output to 24bit/192kHz to my USB DAC interestingly.

Regardless what sample rate the album is, all is output (upsampled?) to 24/192.

Thread renamed! I better write that story in the morning!

"Amazon Music HD Launches Silently in Australia" ....

I wish there was a way to bulk add an artists catalogue to to your music library.. The click on each album approach is very time consuming if you are adding 40 or so artists.  Seems to be a problem in

most of the streaming services.  I know some have an import/export playlist facility.

The Ultra HD tracks do sound very good.  Found some albums in the genres I listen too that aren’t available to stream in Ultra HD anywhere else. 👍

Could you share a couple specific example albums?

Thanks!  Trying it through my Node 2i.  Definitely not as well integrated into Bluos as Tidal.... Sounds slightly brighter though my 800s but it's still early days.  I like the Amazon playlists much better than Tidal.

How do I edit the post title to say it's now available?  LOL just realised that it's been a year since the first post....

GMO & Dense, album “Distances”

Kayla Scintilla, album “Gaian Code”

Eartha Harris (featuring Bluetech), album “Mirror Suit”.

There are more, but I’m pretty sure we don’t have similar musical tastes 🙂.

Happy hunting. I only signed up this morning after reading Marc’s post, so I’m still exploring. 👍

Cheers. All 3 of those are in Apple Music Lossless.

I'm always curious to see any big differences in the catalogues between the big streaming services.

Yep, but they are are only “Lossless” in Apple Music.

If you press on the album quality in the Amazon Music HD app it will tell you the quality.

See attached example for "Distances" - it is 24/44.1. Nice album btw! Just playing now.

The Ultra HD name is just a random name Amazon came up with.

The actual format of the music is equivalent to what Apple has called 'Lossless'.

If you see Amazon's description for UltraHD it also mentions 'Lossless'.

The Amazon and Apple Music libraries are very similar when you dig deeper in the comparisons.

Lossless in Apple for these albums is 16bit /44.1 kHz or CD Quality. I use Apple Music frequently.

Apple Hi res is 24 bits /44.1 up to 192khz.

Ultra HD in the case of “Distances” and the other albums I quoted in Amazon are 24 bit /44.1 KHz and the resolution is noticeable.
