The Return to Sydney Audio Club Meetings at Dence Park Epping

Dear members and friends of Sydney Audio Club Inc.,

In discussions with the Management Committee of the Epping Creative Centre it appears that the way forward to holding meetings at Dence Park will probably require all visitors to the Centre to have two Covid-19 vaccinations and show proof of vaccination before entry is allowed.

No details are available at present but this is advance notice so that you have time to organise your vaccination before our next meeting.

As Parramatta Council area is still in total lockdown they have actually disabled the security access codes to the building so that no-one can enter. They will follow the regulations when the Government advises when we can return and the conditions of entry.

We will let you know as soon as we are notified.

In the mean-time the electricity supply is still flowing so amplifiers and speakers can be activated to listen to good music.

If you are looking for other things to occupy your time you could reorganise your music collection by album name, group name, composers name, composers given name, by album colour, by genre or by size, or backwards. Or completely random order. Or clean every disc in your collection.

Set yourself a goal to play - and listen to - each disc in sequence from one end of the shelf.

If your collection is all digital you could set the playback to ‘Random Tracks’ and try see how many seconds it takes to identify each track.

Another fun maintenance pastime would be to disconnect all the cables, clean the pins and sockets, and reconnect them again.

If you have old gear gathering dust, clean it, plug it in and spend hours of fun A/B testing against your current state of the art system.

Till we meet again - get vaccinated, stay safe, sit back and relax, and enjoy the music.

Cheers

COVID Update :

Dear Sydney Audio Club member,

Firstly wishing you all Happy New Year and keep safe from the exponential spread of the virus.

I have had a number of phone calls and emails from concerned members questioning whether we should proceed with our January 16 meeting with the rampant COVID situation.

As part of our Duty of Care to you as your Committee we have reluctantly decided to CANCEL the meeting planned for January 16 at Dence Park.

After months of planning for our re-launch of meetings in 2022 we have not taken this step lightly, in fact we have agonised over this decision.

Please see the email below penned by George Davidson our Vice-President at the request of the Committee and endorsed by all of us before the latest disastrous figures were released.

We look forward to seeing you all again in the next few months or so when things have settled down again and more of us have had a chance to get booster injections.

From George Davidson VP:

Running a club like ours is rewarding and mostly good fun. We have a great membership and a wonderful and enjoyable atmosphere at all our meetings. Even strongly felt opinions on the myriad of “issues” our hobby raises are positively aired and widely discussed in an atmosphere of respect and support. As a long serving committee member it is my view that it is this positive and friendly approach that has made our club popular and well attended.

However, this last year or so has been a test.
A test for you as our membership and indeed a test for the Committee trying to juggle presenters, dates, finances and one after another COVID rules, in order to operate legally and with sufficient grasp of the safety procedures, to offer us the best guarantee of member health & safety, to give us confidence we are taking our responsibilities as a committee effectively.

As we contemplate the latest twists and turns of covid locally, nationally and indeed internationally, as a Committee, we are once again in deep discussion about how best to manage.

We hope you will accept that we find the best compromises we can regarding the club programme, presenters and the logistics of insurance, booking rooms and so on without us bothering you with the small details. However there is one debate we have had which we unanimously agreed we must share with you. We are not asking you to vote or challenge the decision. The time to do that is when you elect your club Committee at the club AGM. However it has been a difficult decision for us and we wanted to share with you the reasoning behind the decision. We do that not because we lack the confidence to make the decision, rather because we want the best for all our members and where there are strong views on this we do not want any member to feel we have simply taken an easy route or popular route. In our discussion we strongly felt we should not be seeking to marginalise anyone and that we strongly tried to value all our members’ views.

We therefore decided that members attending SAC meetings, should be able to demonstrate they are double vaccinated and that masks should be worn in the meetings. No food or drink will be provided by the Committee. Please bring your own bottled and sealed refreshments and consume them in the fresh air out on the balcony.

We ask that members who choose not to get vaccinated, also choose not to attend club meetings for the time being.

We hope then that members a with higher risk of COVID complications feel able to attend with a reasonable expectation of a safe environment.
Similarly we ask that members without vaccination respect and support  their less 'robust” colleagues by choosing not to attend.

The situation will remain a changeable one as COVID insights and wisdoms change and develop. When we see convincing evidence or advice we will of course review our operating procedures and will try to keep you informed as quickly as possible of any changes.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and enthusiasm for our hobby and our club.

George Davidson
Vice President.
