Site Features and Suggestions

Recommended Posts

  • Administrator

First, let's start with what this thread is not for - it's not for bug reports, or site issues - please start a new thread for those :)

This thread is for ideas, suggestions for changes or additions to sub-forums, new features, or a wishlist for what you would like to see.

I can't promise they'll all be implemented, or that I will agree with their use and popularity. Some things are available as plugins, other things we pay developers to perform for us. So if there is a significant cost involved, I have to consider that and weigh it up against it's need or perceived use.

But otherwise, fire away. Anything that makes our forum more inviting, friendly, interactive, and overall more enjoyable will be considered.

I would genuinely like to see more input from the sponsors in their section. What’s new in stock? What’s on special? I genuinely look there for inspiration when wanting something new as I want to support them but often times it’s old threads.
I really enjoyed the lockdown specials a while back.

Me too ... we encourage them all the time! But when they do, they say they don't get a lot of interaction. Catch 22 ...

Build blogs - almost like renovation blogs

Sharing of infos on how to

How to import from one country to another by building ties

Country specific trade sub forums

And if this forum is still interested in SG and other international sites, country specific content that helps attract eyeballs from each place.

More diverse content that isn't just hifi, and it will generate more traffic and eyeballs.

Great ideas @petetherock

Isn't that what this forum is for?

https://www.stereonet.com/forums/forum/9-showcase-your-system-build-threads/

We actually just arranged some more giveaways to encourage people to post more in there like we did a couple of months ago.

End-user or professional? I've often wondered about having our reviewers produce more of that type of content, rather than just reviews, reviews, and more reviews.

That's a hard one. Each distributor (and retailer) in each region has agreements about where they can sell. Us encouraging that (for new goods) would be frowned upon by industry and manufacturers. For second hand gear, yes, it could be handy where countries share the same voltage requirements.

I think we have this already?

Also a work in progress - Singapore / Malaysia specific Events subforum - https://www.stereonet.com/forums/forum/380-singapore-malaysia/

UK and US will come soon. In Singapore for example we have some events planned, as well as store and factory tours, but it's all stalled due to COVID obviously.

In time this will grow.

StereoNET was once just Hi-fi - 2 Channel specifically. We broadened into Home Theatre some years ago, and we now have a number of TV reviews coming up from major manufacturers. Beyond consumer audio and video, I don't want to become What HiFi which IMO, has lost its identity when it started covering laptops, tablets and smartphones. You can't be good at everything - so best to do your very best at what you know I think. You can actually diversify too much and lose your authority on what it is you do now.

Please keep the ideas coming ... they are thought provoking.

There's a lot of plans, particularly on the international side of things for StereoNET that have been on hold for nearly 2 years now for obvious reasons. We're in a bit of holding pattern at the moment. That downtime has allowed us to grow our global reach, team, and of course more content however.

Just another thought on this one ...

Don't forget to subscribe to the Sponsor sub-forums that interest you:

https://www.stereonet.com/forums/announcement/61-dont-forget-to-follow-your-favourite-sponsors/

It will encourage them to continue utilising their own channels if they see they have followers.

I won't go as far as asking them all to say "Smash that subscribe button to be notified when we release new content" - ooops, I did :)

Since you asked... it would be great to get a notification when a classified is posted that contains a word in a user's list of saved words. But I guess that would be a major development effort.

This will be addressed in the new platform.

Will the update have a simple delete for old classifieds?

Not on the radar, but now you've added it here (I moved it for you) we'll look at it once we're on the new V5 platform.

If available, a down page arrow would be useful on v. long thread pages, just as the up arrow to get back to the top....

While unusual, it would be possible. However, I feel like your application might be better resolved with a tweaking of your Content View Behaviour settings? https://www.stereonet.com/forums/settings/links/

I wouldn't mind being able to sort the classified ads by State.

That will be possible. Not immediately, but shortly afterwards as a priority.

Also mentioned somewhere, previously (I think there was already a dedicated thread about it), it will be done.

Can we have 'Authy' as an alternative to 'MS Authenticator' for 2FA?

I don't know the answer to that one currently, as no information has yet been released in that regard. I'll add it to my own To Do and Wishlist however.
