Well, my old man was a salesman for most of his working life. It's amazing what people will buy, that they had no idea they even needed, with the right approach..

It might be a surprise to know that not all sales consultants earn commission.

The thing about this particular topic is that it is a tweak to streaming. For some, a big one, for others, a small one. And for others, we are clearly all delusional.

I would suggest anyone pin down their digital rig first, before stepping into the fringes of network tweaking, if at all. I would encourage anyone, even those clients who "might" want to buy a fancy switch at the time of hifi purchase, to not do so. It's a conversation for another time, again, if at all.

Digital audio is wonderful @klm, ironically I bought far more vinyl over the last 3 years because of the music discovery aspect of it. Dont let this thread drag you down - this was not intention of the original creator of the thread.

I’m not dismissing digital, I have a remarkably good cd based player/ dac and all of the supporting accouterments in order to aid that format and I very much enjoy it along with vinyl and fm radio. I just have no need for having an iPad or phone in front of me anymore than absolutely necessary. If I want music, I get up and tilt my head a little and rediscover old friends.

Amen to that.

Black and/ or silver discs. Just play it and go.

Apologies for the OT:flowers:

Au contraire, "just play it and go" is far easier with streaming. I don't have to leave my couch and can play whatever I feel like, whenever I feel like it. 20 albums in a row if I were to be compelled to be sedentary for that long. Streaming is great. Who said you have to get into all this cable and switch hocus pocus?

But the one thing that keeps getting ignored here is that ALL hi-fi enthusiasts are an intelligent bunch - these suggestions that we have a magic flute that leads people down a garden path upon playback, is laughable.

It’s actually insulting.

Although audio enthusiasts are a somewhat peculiar breed, in all my years of pursuing this hobby I have never met one I don’t enjoy talking to and sharing time with.  I always learn something new and interesting when I listen to someone else’s system and talk to them about their choices.  Further to that, the many audiophiles I have met are universally intelligent and also very genuine people.

Surely within this forum, where we are all audiophiles, we can put aside some of our preconceived biases to have respectful conversations with each other?

I so agree Black and silver is the best reproduction you can get other than live performances I'm not sure what this streaming is all about it's been sent from a cd from God nows were, to me just buy a cd or vinyl and happy listening to music 🎶 🎵 that's the main thing, music and enjoyment 😉

I won't be butchering these. They are the finest factory patch leads I've ever used even if their use to me is limited. Fact is the R&M factory terminations are better than I can do myself; if I cut-and-shut these, it's nigh-on a war-crime. I'll just use them on the back-end and find the better Panduits in my inventory (I think I may still have one U/UTP factory R&M patch between some kit in the study too).

I've been thinking about this, and wondering if you or others with your type of background/knowledge can answer any of these questions:

Why do you believe R&M termination is so good?  Say compared to say Belden or Belkin https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/belkin-cat6-snagless-molded-patch-cable-1-metre

Where can someone purchase single R&M ethernet cables?

What other brands are also as good?

is U/FTP likely to be an improvement over U/UTP, for  1m or less?

Would Cat 6A be better than Cat 6, assuming the same shielding?

Has anyone tried the Curious Ethernet cable? If so, thoughts?

This is a tough one for me.  I am a recent owner of a Curious Ethernet cable.  I haven’t experimented with it extensively.  Also, I have had some recent changes to my system that have caused me to be cautious about making overly quick evaluations of new cables.  What I can say is that it doesn’t seem to offer what the AIM NA7 Ethernet cable has when I compare them back to back.

This is also a hard one for me as I stock various Ethernet cables including the Curious. At its price point the new Curious cable is very good, if one is prepared to look a level up in pricing then both the Atlas Mavros and the AIM NA7 offer more in what they deliver.

I have compared back to back both the NA7 and the Atlas Mavros over a period of a couple of weeks on a number of systems at different levels and while there is not a lot in it to my ears anyway I preferred the Atlas cable. I have also heard and compared a number of other well respected Ethernet cables with the Mavros and still the outcome was the same.

I will add up front that I do sell the Atlas but not the AIM cable. Plus what I prefer doesn’t mean that it would be the same outcome for others.

cheers,

Terry

PS. I will add one other thing, while I do sell cables, cables to me are a means to the end, my primary aim is always to be able to put together the best sounding system I can. To date I have not found a better sounding Ethernet cable than the Mavros and if I did then I would open an account with the supplier, then have their Ethernet cable in my systems and I would be selling it.

Atlas Mavros

To get an insight into what potential grounding cables offers, try grounding the Marvos to a Akiko, Entreq or Telos ground block.

Taking that another step, a well developed  version of this approach is Synergistic Research Atmosphere X Reference ethernet that also has a ground connection.  I have two, I connect to SR Active Ground Block SE via HD ground cable.  Yes, even the ground wire matters, the HD ground cable is easily better than the basic ground wire.  Give that a whirl.
