NonPlayableCharacter Posted August 16, 2021 Posted August 16, 2021 I'm going to ask a favour, I hope the admins don't see this as contentious or bordering on political as that is not my intention. I'm a passionate advocate of small, local business. I buy from the local butcher, greengrocer and produce store etc; I've never even set foot in the new Coles in Woodend that opened up about 2 years ago. If you love where you live, why wouldn't you support the local economy by frequenting the small businesses there? Here is my ask: The dry cleaners on Anslow St in town, is really struggling. Mrs Tel dropped 3 of my shirts in this morning for ironing and the lady that runs it was saying she is borderline on closing. Covid has meant people working from home and no demand for dry cleaning. She does all sorts, much more than just dry cleaning the suit that you haven't really needed much over the last 18 months. She does curtains, pillows, quilts etc. I've just dropped a heap of stuff there in the last hour to help out, including a couple of sheepskin rugs our moggies sleep on. She can do standard washing (great for big stuff you might not do at home like your winter coats etc), ironing, repairs as well as old school dry cleaning. Anyway, just putting it out there as I hate to see local business struggle. If you can't help directly, please consider mentioning this to a couple of people. If you don't live anywhere close to here, and yet you've still read this far, I would ask that if you aren't already doing so, please consider your local small businesses as a first option. I know they can often be more expensive, but they also care more about your custom and you'll be doing your local area a solid. Cheers, Tel. 5
Topman_Chief Posted August 16, 2021 Posted August 16, 2021 @El Tel Very kind of you to post this. I'm too far from beautiful Woodend to help directly, but most people have doonas/quilts that don't fit in their own machines and are overdue for a wash. Seems like a good reason to provide some business. 1
Herbyj Posted August 16, 2021 Posted August 16, 2021 Hi Tel I live out Cobaw way. I too like to support local businesses but must admit that my demand for dry cleaning has declined since I'm working from home and not wearing a suit, shirts etc etc.. If I need any dry cleaning, ironing or repairs done I'll take it to the dry cleaner in Anslow Street, Woodend. Thanks for posting. Cheers Herbyj 1
NonPlayableCharacter Posted August 16, 2021 Author Posted August 16, 2021 (edited) Thank you. I'm not gilding the lilly here, but when I went in with the double arm-full of stuff and told her that Mrs Tel said she was struggling to stay afloat, I said that we wanted to do what we can to help the poor woman, she starting welling-up. I could see how much it's weighing on her. Tel Edited August 16, 2021 by El Tel Idiocy. And spelling. Mostly idiocy. 2
NonPlayableCharacter Posted August 18, 2021 Author Posted August 18, 2021 Well done @NADCRUSHER for taking in those sheepskin seat covers. You're a legend. Was frequenting another local business (which is going great guns, fortunately), Lucky's Barbershop, on Woodend High Street today for a full head and face shave plus beard-trim. I mentioned the cleaners to them and they are going to investigate outsourcing their towels etc rather than doing them themselves. I'm going to happy hour at the pub tomorrow night and am going to plug-the-bejeezus out of the Dry Cleaners. Troops don't die on my watch; not on my watch. 1 1
