Hi all,

just received a NOS 625E stylus for a stanton 680 cart, and noticed that the cantilever is a little tilted. I’ve had this tilt problem with all NOS styli I’ve received (granted that’s not many, just starting out) but usually able to correct it by rotating the headshell a little. Just wondering if I’ve had bad luck so far or if it’s a common occurrence and nothing to worry about?

It certainly sounds good with no distortion in the brief passages I tested out. I’ve attached a picture for reference.

Thanks for help with the noobie question!

Wouldn't that mean the stylus movement in the grooves is not correct with respect to the magnets in the cartridge body?

I'm not sure to be honest.. I assume it is not wise to correct the problem in this way then? The tilt has only been a few degrees, but this one is significantly more.

send that photo to whoever you purchased it from and request a new replacement that is not skewed like that, your vinyl is too precious to use any stylus that is not set up properly .

Thanks, that is what I am planning to do. Are there any ways to fix such skew problems? And is it something that is common to older production styli?

Garrotts can repair it for a fairly modest cost I believe, had the same with a NOS Stanton 881 stylus a few years back
