Lashes Posted August 15, 2021 Posted August 15, 2021 I'm looking for a solution to provide 240v power through IEC to an Active Speaker when there is an analogue audio signal present and then turn off after an extended period with no signal. I've been making use of an SRM450 mounted up high on a shelf in my living area. I have an Airport Express connected to my network and this was connected to the SRM450. I've been able to Airplay audio around the house with no other user input other than pressing play on a device and setting the output. This has worked splendidly as the SRM450 has a button to enable an auto on/off feature. This feature works by effectively placing the active speaker in a standby mode, then when an input signal is detected, it wakes up the speaker and the audio plays through the speaker. Then after an extended time of no signal the active speaker returns to its standby state automatically. Unfortunately, the amp in my SRM450 has blown after 15 years of good service. Initially I looked into getting a replacement amp but the cost of the amp module was over $800. After considering this option I've pretty much decided it's best to spend a bit more money for a new Active Speaker, I'm hoping to get something that sounds even better than my SRM450's used to and also get some decent warranty. Most, if not all, of the quality options to replace the SRM450 don't have the auto on/off feature that the old SRM450 had. So now I'm in a pickle, I want to keep the simplicity of the setup I had before with the Active Speaker turning on when signal is present and then turning off when the listening session is finished. I have seen the powerboards that have a main outlet that triggers the other outlets when power is drawn. However, I don't think the power draw of the Airport Express is going to change based on it receiving a stream in a way that will trigger the other outlets. I'm also hoping not to degrade the audio signal as it goes through some kind of trigger. Please share some solutions, I've been googling but have struggled to find something that will work.
