MrMojo Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 (edited) Further information: An amazing sounding and highly flexible streamer that punches well above its price class and shows that Pioneer can still do 'hifi audio' properly if they tried. Very flexible unit that does online streaming including TIDAL MQA, local NAS playback, Google Chromecast audio, Apple AirPlay as well as a great stand alone DAC via its digital inputs. Has built-in wifi and also an ethernet port. Features & Specs here - https://intl.pioneer-audiovisual.com/products/2ch_components/n-70ae/ Via its balanced analog out, it beat my Linn Akurate DS which says a lot. It sounds smoother with deeper bass than the Linn which sounds slightly drier and leaner in comparison. Being able to use as standalone DAC is a great plus and it sounds very very close used as streamer or as a dac via its digital input. Selling as I have decided to go for a separate standalone DAC with my Akurate DS used as transport only. Comes with original packaging, some manuals and original remote. Pick up welcome, or can post well packed. PauliD Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 I had the previous iteration and model lower (N-50A) and thought it had great sound but lacked some streaming features. Looks like Pioneer has done a great job of updating it with streaming services and chrome cast, built in WiFi, and MQA support is awesome. The N-50A is built like a tank I can only imagine the heft of the 70 with the 3 sectioned internal layout which is just pretty to look at. As streamer or just a DAC this would be very good especially at this price. GLWTS! 1
Mikety Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 Great streamer for the price. The sound much better than Cambridge CXN with same price. If it was in silver, I will take it. Glws 1
Audiobuff Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 I have the previous model N70a, absolutely love it. GLWTS.
Ernest Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 How about the sound quality when using it as a transport to another standalone DAC?
donkeykong Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 Yeah, look better in silver. How is the software /app like?

Sorry, haven't tried it as transport as I do not have an external DAC yet. Judging by the quality of playback via the input, I would expect the digital out to be equally good.

The software on the streamer itself is pretty good, well laid out and responsive menu with many options to tweak such as digital filter, signal lock range etc. The control app itself is alright. Does let you control and gives access to all the sources. Although with TIDAL and Spotify natively supported, you may not need the app at all and can probably just use TIDAL/Spotify connect for playback. I use Qobuz and unfortunately Qobuz is not supported yet.
