Item: HIFIMAN EDITION X V1 HEADPHONES, original box / accessories
Price Range: zero dollars but it would be nice if you made a contribution to SNA
Item Condition:  Damaged driver on right side - still working but who knows for how long (see below)
Extra Info:

I tried selling these a few months ago (ad here) but realised they were damaged. They have been sitting unused since then.

They work fine as far as I can tell, but the right driver looks seriously damaged. I've tried to show it in the photo.

I have no idea how long they will work for.

*Good home means you agree to the following conditions:

- No flipping. If you flip these (or any part of them) you agree to be named and shamed (unless of course you pay to get them fixed first, then feel free to sell 'em)

- No complaining if they fail after five minutes… waddaya want for nothing?

- this is not first in best dressed. I will decide who gets them and the manner in which they get them.

         - Preference given if you can pick them up (contactless). I'm in Melbourne

Also you need to be a regular contributor to SNA (and not just someone who posts nonsense to get their post count up - like that Sir Sanders Zingmore guy)

Hi ,

Keen on trying these out, thanks.

Are they better with a amp? or fine without?

Is the driver damaged? Or is that just the fazor-esc grill pushed in?

The driver (ie the glad wrap stuff) is fine. The metal magnet thing has snapped and miraculously moved away from the glad wrap.

Better photo here:

They are surprisingly good with no amp

They are significantly better with an amp

Ah yes. If the diaphragm and trace are still good, be a good pickup for someone. Push the magment back down, solder it together maybe to electrically connect. Might still do ok.

EDIT: I'd happily have a crack at doing the above, pending success, passing them to someone. I have not actual interest in owning them.

I thought about doing what you suggest. The magnet is very strong  and the broken bars have sprung outward. My concern was that it would require a lot of force to line them up again and you'd risk them flipping the other way and into the diaphragm (or snapping them entirely off). And then there's the risk of solder going onto the plastic

I guess if you were game to remove the magnet completely from the diaphragm you might risk it. I certainly wasn't and Addicted to Audio said they wouldn't repair them either

I would probably attempt just bending them slowely. Maybe fil the end flat a bit to keep it out of its own way. Use a magnet to catch the filings. Then solder it upside down.

Its one magnet on one line, even if you can get it close, it may still sound as good to most people.

Anyway. My offer is there for whoever wins this, no gaurentees, but i'll give it a careful crack (maybe listen first, you might like it as is).

It's two magnets broken

I've highlighted where the second one is snapped.

All four pieces (the two halves of the two bars) are stuck together magnetically

To be clear, it sounds absolutely fine to me as is. I had zero idea it was broken until the person I originally sold it to noticed the break (he also didn't notice anything amiss with the sound)
