Hey,

I brought an additional sub a few days ago so I had to redo the room calibration to get the AVR to output signal and notice one of the height channels needs a lot more signal than the other.
They are both pretty much the same distance from the sweet spot, but one is +11DB where the other is only +1DB. I checked the connection on the amp and speaker terminals and both are good.

Could it be the speaker itself or the cable going bad?

Side note I did notice that a cable had come loose on one of the rear height channels (5.2.4) so it's good I did the test to catch that! Could have just come loose as I was pulling cable through the snake pit or could have been for awhile, happy I found that out all the same :)

That sort of difference isn't just a room issue - definitely an equipment problem.

I'd suggest swapping the height outputs on the AVR and redoing the calibration to confirm it's not the AVR's internal amps.

If it's not the AVR then try swapping the height speakers - I'm assuming the cabling is in wall an not easy to swap.

Thanks Quark, I didn’t even think of it possibly being the amp. That’s easy test to do first, the cable is definitely going to be harder. I’ll report back once I try it.

Ok. Did some lunchtime testing.

1. like you suggested, make sure the amp channel is ok and just swapped the left and right front height channels. The problem moved to the other speaker, so the amps ok. Phew!
2. swapped the speaker only. The problem remained in that channel. So not the speakers.

looks like I need to get some new cable.

Thanks for the tip!
