krazywaffle
Item Condition: Very good Shipping Options: Pickup available but audition is not available.,Shipping is included in price. Suburb or Town: Townsville State: QLD Payment Method: Cash, EFT Reason for selling: Surplus Further information: Selling the well-known and well-reviewed Metrum Octave NOS Mini DAC with "Octave Power Supply". Comes complete with IEC lead, umbilical chord, and printed copy of manual. If you aren't familiar, this NOS DAC uses an entirely unique chipset architecture (i.e., not typical audiophile DAC chipset): "For the last 20 years we have been manufacturing electrostatic transducers and related electronics. We also design transducers and systems for non-destructive ultrasonic investigations. Based on this background we subsequently attempted to design a DAC which would not be based on the regular AKM, Burr Brown, TI, Crystal and Wolfson chips which are ubiquitous in consumer audio. Instead we wanted an ultra high-speed part such as you'd find in industrial applications. After many years of experimentation we finally identified an extremely fast chip that's useable for 16 or 24-bit audio but handles sampling rates up to 15 Megahertz. Of course some glue logic was required to match this chip to the standard audio formats. Due to the very low glitch energy of our resistor ladder network, we need no digital filter or oversampling." (from: https://6moons.com/audioreviews/metrum/1.html) I picked up this unit to try a NOS DAC in my system as they only way to know is to hear in situ. The level of detail is spectacular! WOW! However, I've become accustomed to listening to "normalized" 24/96 resolution (via Meridian 568.2MM) and, thus, the differences between native 16/44.1 and native 24/96 via Metrum Octave just didn't align with my listening preference. That said, the ability for this NOS DAC to "completely reveal" native resolution is beyond impressive and is completely aligned with all reviews. If you are looking for a NOS DAC this one is a must try! Please note that his DAC accepts Toslink and Coaxial digital only (no USB).
