Hi all,

Our Pioneer PDP-507 XDA has finally stopped working after 14 years of service and I’m now looking for a replacement.

I want to buy a budget 65” TV under $1500. We have a Hisense 65” that’s about 3 years old, it has a Samsung panel and I’m happy with the picture quality, understanding that there are far better TV’s available at much higher cost.

What are some of the current best bang for buck 65” TV’s I should consider?

can’t beat it,   And Hisense comes with some decent warranty.  I’ve seen on a client site running Hisense 40” on the cheap 24/7 with four out of 8 dying around the 4 yr mark of usage for $400 a pop can’t go wrong,  in four years some other tech will be out and you’ll be drooling over that!

Personally I would go for the Smart version as most TVs now have specific buttons and apps for Netflix, Amazon ect inbuilt

I like the LG because the remote is easy to use

But that Aldi TV in the above post is huge and can’t beat the price

The Hisense q8 series is the pick at these prices . Its not a cheap edge lit but a FALD for better contrast with many local zones . And its got upmarket quantum dots for a better colour gamut . lovely 4k uhd playback with its 1000+ nit peak brightness 🤩

I notice the 100" s8 has recently come down to 8k from a rrp of 14k - it isnt a quantum dot model - the q series was superior and what I went with B| It just got a firmware for alexa and google assistant btw finally..

highlight the entire length of the link,  right click on the mouse and do a copy,  then open the page here in this thread do a paste.

here you go:

I couldn’t agree more,  this was head to head with some of the LG OLED models, side by side even though in display mode dynamic it’s hard to justify the LG OLED…….price wise that multiple times more…..   Does the job nicely.  For ordinary typical viewing it will do at its price point

Thanks Mate ,

I think Mark has already purchased this one. I have my own calibration gear and use HCFR to calibrated. I reckon once calibrated this will look pretty close to oled.

My tech savvy, photographic, video shooting son on a budget is running the Hisense Q7 bought cheap. He is very pleased with the image but says that the motion blurring software is a total dog. He sees the biggest letdown on the Hisense as being the the software side. He is unable to recommend it to someone with no idea of what to do wanting a premium picture as they will struggle with getting the settings/software right.

Waiting for the Hisense 2021 U8G to arrive which has received rave reviews overseas.  The 65" model has about 400 local dimming zones and peak brightness in excess of 1000nits.   Add to this HDMI 2.1,  Dolby Vision as well as HDR 10+, VRR and Auto Low Latency for an entry price of just above $2k.

I have both a Hisense 65" Q8 and a Sony 55" 950h. I bought the Hisense as a 'cheap' option for the kids room when their TV packed it in.  The Sony was in our lounge room

While the Sony picture was almost perfect out of the box, initially the Q8 did my head in with getting the right picture - however after a couple of months of research and playing around with the calibration I have to say that I prefer the Hisense picture 95% of the time than the Sony - Sony does skin tone slightly better, but that was not enough for me to swap TVs, and the Hisense is now in the Lounge.  You may be able to achieve even better if you have calibrations tools at your disposal, or get someone around.

At the $1,100 odd price it is now I couldn't recommend it higher.  The only uncertainty is longevity and time will tell on that.

Just learnt that the 2021 Hisense U8G is nothing like its US counterpart.  The Australian version has an IPS panel and significantly lower peak brightness.  The IPS panel is a deal breaker for me; will not touch any LCD TV with an IPS panel - dreadfully poor contrast and black levels which turn grey in a dark room.

Poor form Hisense - agree with Williac above.  If you can, get hold of the 2020 Q8 with a VA panel and lots of dimming zones, do so.

What do yas recommend the best places to buy this and ways to do this to screw down the price? 😁

they have been on runout for a while now so you may not find one.

if you do, you should be able to buy one around $1,000 which is a crazy price for the quality of this TV.

Mine is a few weeks old now and has settled in nicely after I did some detailed colour adjustment. Picture quality is terrific, great detail in blacks , skin tones look perfect and motion reproduction is excellent.

Unbelievable value and performance if you can find one but be prepared to spend a few hours experimenting and adjusting most of the comprehensive colour settings before you’ll be happy with it.

Hardly Normal seem to have the Q7 for a Grand. Wonder what the differences are between that and the Q8?
