Grizzly Posted July 12, 2021 Posted July 12, 2021 My father in law came over for a bit of a listen tonight, and brought with him these little retro rockets which he says he bought about twenty years back from some recently arrived English migrants. My brief googling yields nothing but they seem neatly made and, on a brief session, sound pretty cool too. Anyone know anything much about them?
kelossus Posted July 12, 2021 Posted July 12, 2021 (edited) I have a hunch these aren't an OEM JBL product but the tweeter inside might very well be a JBL driver. Just in front of the switch, on the base of the unit, there is more writing. Is this of any relevance? Can you provide a close up of the diaphragm. On first glance they look like tweeters from JBL's car audio range. Edited July 12, 2021 by kelossus

His recollection was of contacting JBL who said they weren't a consumer product but possibly "commissioned", and advising him not to sell them whilst the chap he was speaking to collected more detail. if those details were collected they weren't passed on. I'll try to get some clearer shots, however he took them home again last night. Edited July 12, 2021 by Grizzly 1

Very much a car audio tweeter, and I remember seeing those housings as a Aliexpress type offering over a decade ago. I'd love to be wrong but I suspect @kelossus is on the money here. But hey, if they sound great, who cares?

Guest Posted July 12, 2021 Posted July 12, 2021 I've got a vague recollection of a car audio shop in Indonesia selling these for car audio use. It was a simple way to get tweeters up on the dashboard before custom moulding into the A-pillars became a thing.
