harman87 Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Hi Guys, I have home theater setup as below (I know its weird but thats what I have upgraded one by one finding best bargains which I can slowly from YHT-1840 5.1 ) AVR Yamaha: I think it is Yamaha RX-V385 which came with YHT-1840 5.1 system Subwoofer: passive (came along my 5.1 system NS-P40) Front LR - Klipsch R41 bookshelf Centre - Klipsch R52C Rear Book shelf: Polk T15 My main use would be Music 60% and movies 40% but both equally important for me. I am want to upgrade my HT system step by step (no rush) which will be good for now and also blend in my future plan as well. My room is small to medium for now so space constraints for now and my future plan would be to use this system in my living area (when I get my own home) I will upgrade to Floor standing speakers (after 1 -2 year may be) For which my plan is to get 1) Subwoofer : SVS pb 1000 pro. Need your suggestion on this. I think it is a good selection which will go well with my flexible upgrade plan. I like big ground shaking bass do you think it is good selection ? 2) Good bookshelf speakers , need your suggestions on my options are Elac b6.2 ($629) Or Klipsch R51 ($400) or Kef Q350 ($895) or any other option you think which surpass these in sound quality and is best bang for buck. My budget is around $600 thats is why I am not considering KEF to be a good one for me but looking in long run if I get Kef Q350 and I can get floor standing Q950 later to complete my setup. I dont know if these are really worth $895. 3) Do you think getting better AVR with more power and 7.2 chanel should be my priority to run these speakers as I have at this moment only 70 W per Channel (6 ohms, 20 Hz-20 kHz, 0.09 percent THD, 2-ch driven)? I think considering the fact AVR development and introduction of new tech/features every year I should probably wait for that. What are your thoughts on wattage required to run
POV Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 If music is more of a priority than movies have you considered building up a nice 2.1 or 2.2 system rather than a 5.1 + system? Good thing here is you can start with 2.0 and then gradually add. I'm not sure how to advise you exactly to be honest, beyond saying that in my experience entry level AVRs are very brash and harsh sounding and would think it makes sense to look at an upgrade there. You might consider a 2 channel amp or stereo receiver. To your question re KEF Q350 I would say at $895 they are a verifiable bargain. Great thing about them is they dig pretty deep so you could definitely get by without a sub for a while using them. If you have $1000 to spend on the SVS I would suggest consider spending it on the Q350 instead. Could use with current AVR, though it would be the weak point, and then upgrade that. Have fun! 1
harman87 Posted July 11, 2021 Author Posted July 11, 2021 Hi Pov, Thanks for your advice, really appreciate that. I have never thought of building up 2.0 or 2.1 setup as I am using this system for both things music and movies quite frequently switching between two at same location (where my PC is). Considering the space and money constraints I would not be able to go for decent 2.1 setup for music I think. But still Can I ask you how much it would cost for budget 2.0 or 2.1 setup for general user, (not an audiophile)?
