brabs Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 Hello, I need some advice. I have a x35 with around 2000hrs in the original lamp. Just over the weekend, it started not working. I would start it up and the standby light would be green. The dila image would show on the screen. The lamp would then go off and then the warning, lamp and standby light would come on. Warning - solid red Lamp - is blinking twice pause orange Standby - blinks until the fans go off then solid red. Would you know what causes this? After powering PDF and unplugging from the wall when I retry, sometimes it makes some clicks from near the front, I doesn’t show dila anymore, but I can tell the lamp still fires up. I’ve removed and reseated the lamp, with no luck any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Quark Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 Try cleaning the filter and turn off then on at the wall and restart. If that doesn't work, see p.82 of the manual for the meaning of the flashing lights. For servicing I'd suggest JLS Electronics as a reliable repairer, albeit they often have a backlog of work. 1
brabs Posted July 7, 2021 Author Posted July 7, 2021 Thanks quark, the filter was recently cleaned, and still clean. Just hoping it’s not a major repair

brabs Posted July 7, 2021 Author Posted July 7, 2021 If it was the ballast, can the globe still light up?
brabs Posted July 7, 2021 Author Posted July 7, 2021 Maybe I try my luck and hope someone has a spare /old lamp I could borrow to check of it is just my lamp failing. cheers 1

brabs Posted July 8, 2021 Author Posted July 8, 2021 Just checking anyone south of Melbourne has a spare or old lamp for me to test? cheers
oztheatre Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 Surely a ballast is not an expensive repair these days? As the JVC's are known for this problem.. Ask your service centre if they've worked on this model before as some repair centres haven't seen them at all. 1

It's a 1hr job tops for them but they charge way too much for the part.. typical for spare parts. These are kind of mass produced so can't be worth that much they just sting us for parts like every other industry does. What about this? if you can solder, you might be able to do this?
oztheatre Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 eliminate the lamp possibility first though, check the flash sequence against the book

lonewolf Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 (edited) sadly it was pricey, if its the ballast which seems to have been a common issue with a few ranges of the JVC projectors, in Australia it seems to cost around $700-900 to repair it ( the part itself is quite cheap and you can get it online yourself, its the exorbitant charges for the repairs that spikes it up). If you are having the red light / orange light flashing, you can tell by the flashes what it possibly could be. But a lot of times the error for a bulb issue is similar to a ballast issue. Probably ideal to first check if its just a bulb issue / replacement of bulb required and then go from there. In my case, it could have been either and so i got a replacement bulb first and same issue. I then took it in for a quote, to get a quote was about $180.. at that point you are almost committed to paying for repairs anyway. The total repair cost was around $780 or something. If I hadnt paid for the quote, personally I probably wouldnt have got it repaired. Its a great projector but annoying that it costs so much to fix an issue where the parts arent that expensive and its a common issue. Edited July 9, 2021 by lonewolf
brabs Posted July 9, 2021 Author Posted July 9, 2021 Thanks @lonewolf fingers crossed then, hopefully the globe but we will see
brabs Posted July 11, 2021 Author Posted July 11, 2021 (edited) Ok update. Instead of going the repair/quote route, I found a lightly used white x35 with roughly 600hrs on the original lamp.at a very reasonable cost, cheaper than a ballast repair. thinking I could test my black one with the lamp to rule out the lamp as the issue. well it fired up normally !! it must have been the lamp. I checked the info while testing and the lamp had done 2600hrs. I never noticed any dimming but it must have just been time. the good news now is I have 2 working X35s, I’ve packed my old one away incase disaster strikes, and troubleshooting should be easier in the future! j19801110 Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 Lucky duck. I replaced ballast on an x30. It wasn’t a walk in the park but was hell of a lot cheaper than getting it repaired. lucky it was the lamp. The X35s were great units. 2
frozenkuku Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 i have this problem with my x700r as well last month exactly the same blinking 3 lights i noticed one day suddenly it dimmed dark and back to normal and dimmed dark repeartly, next day it just auto turned off and blinking 3 lights. sometimes i can turn it back on no problem, but sometimes it just turned off in 5 mins. I only watched less than 800hours after motherboard replaced a year ago (costed me $2700 to repair) and before that, i only watched around 1000hours. i just give up, maybe i have bad luck with jvc projectors, they seems break down so easily. I googled people say it's common ballast problem and only costed around $200 to repair but required strip whole projector down i decide to just buy a new projector and sell mine cheap to someone who wants to give a go and repair themselves
Hdblu4k Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 Anyone know where you can buy a Ballast for a X70 JVC? There one in UK but don’t ship overseas
Quark Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 There's one on Aliexpress for an exorbitant amount. That listing provides a part number: RPB-0526GA. A search for that number shows a post on AVS on common repairs for the ballast - if all else fails you may be able to get a tech to repair the ballast using those pointers. 1
Hdblu4k Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 I did notice Aliexpress but if I was going to spend that much I’ll just get it repaired professionally. Thanks for your response information
lonewolf Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 I had this issue as i mentioned in an earlier post on this thread. I would recommend people not getting it repaired if it is a Ballast issue as basically the costs they charge is almost the same price as buying a similar projector 2nd hand, you are better of doing that and keeping yours as a spare parts plus keeping the bulb etc. Frankly I think these shops are just laughing all the way to the bank when they charge these kinds of prices for a repair where the part is very cheap. 1
Hdblu4k Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 I think they charge a bit to replace it as JVC has hidden the part under all the boards, You have to remove a lot just to get to the ballast. And you’re right I might buy a new JVC down the track and hopefully they have rectified the problem. Or might look at some laser Sony projectors.
