The Bluesman Posted July 3, 2021 Posted July 3, 2021 (edited) Hi all, ordered and picked up my brand new 2021 Bluesound Node streamer the other day after sitting on the sideline but taking note of this popular little streaming device and seeing them pop up in the classifies for sale etc, Ive been using the much loved Cambridge Audio CXN V1 for quiet a few years now and been very happy, gotta say I am very impressed with the new node but I am having trouble trying to connect to my Synology NAS with it so in that regard it doesn't work as seamless as the CXN, It works great as a Roon end point and it does sound good, I plan to pair it with a Chord Qutest as soon as I can as a real upgrade to my CXN, anyone else have this combo that might be able to share some tips and tricks, the new Node Bluesound internal DAC isn't to bad at it's price point all the same Edited July 4, 2021 by The Bluesman upgrade
Guest dr_carl Posted July 4, 2021 Posted July 4, 2021 Its probably related to how your device is configured with respect to your WLAN. If you use a computer can you see your NAS on the network? If so, take note of the name that shows, and check the IP address also (assigning a static IP to the node is a good idea). For example mine shows up as MEDIASTORAGE on my Windows computer, and I know that my music is in a directory called /Public/music, so in the node 2 the share is //MEDIASTORAGE/Public Let the node index the files (my 11000 tracks took 4 minutes). the /Public directory needs no password on my NAS. Good luck.

The Bluesman Posted July 6, 2021 Author Posted July 6, 2021 Thanks heaps for responding dr_carl & Snoopy, I still haven't got it to work but I'll keep trying, my next problem is I upgraded the software on my Synology NAS 920 plus to the very latest version, I have Roon installed and it was working faultlessly but now with the latest software my NAS doesn't support Roon anymore, my new Bluesound works great with Roon and I could access my music library via Roon, anyway I'm gonna give up for a while, Play some LPs, hopefully Synology and Roon can fix this problem sooner rather than later, thanks again fellers
Guest dr_carl Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 I don't use roon @The Bluesman, so I can't help with that. BluOS does everything I need. For me, the secret was buying a mesh wifi and after that not a hiccup...zilch...Nada. That is, (a) once I had connected my NAS drive to a mesh node via a Ethernet switch. Direct Ethernet cable from NAS to router got nothing. (b) an active internet connection - I moved house and had no NBN for 5 weeks. So 5 weeks of cds. Took me a while to get to that point as all my old WLAN needs were working ok, just the streaming was a *****. What really pushed me over the line were the very slow file transfer rates I had. What was confusing was that I could stream Netflix ok, but it took 20 to move downloaded file to my NAS. For a while I duplicated my music to a USB HDD, connected directly to the Node 2, which works perfectly. I can see why some folks will be happier playing records or cds. I'm streaming only because the cd shops have very little stock. All my physical media is purchased online now.

If you don't need any new features or updates from the new version suggest you roll back to a previous update (you'll have to search how to do that for your specific unit). There are known apps which are borked with the new updates. Google synology community and start there, or here if you can find what you need. 1

Thanks WasM, I wished I didn't upgrade the software on my Synology 920+ as Roon was working great on it with no issues, anyway decided not to roll back the upgrade as I'm over mucking around with that, will wait till it becomes compatible if it ever does, using the 920 as a network share and the New Node is working great with it, very happy now
The Bluesman Posted July 8, 2021 Author Posted July 8, 2021 Got the new Bluesound Node up and running with my NAS, very happy and can now see why these units are so popular, pleasure to use and it sounds great at this price point as it is, can't complain so I'll use it as it is for a while, do some more research on DACs but at the moment I like the Chord qutest for my budget

That's a very kind and generous offer Dr Carl and thank you very much, I've did a bit of research on that DAC and it sounds like very good value and a great DAC, I have a couple of DACs sitting around myself, the Bluesound Nodes onboard DAC ain't to bad either so I'll play with those for a bit but appreciate your offer, good to get the new Bluesound setup and just sit back and enjoy it for what it is and it is a good thing
