Thanks for your time click in

I am changing my theater to long way 6.5x4.5m.

There are 2 Windows, therefore decided to go for a ceiling flushed motorised screen

Seems lots of variables.

Question:

Should I go Tensioned / White / Grey

Is there a noticeable difference between screens cost 1k and 5k if I use a Epson tw9400

Any particular coating surface suggested.

Only 1-2 viewers 90% of the time

Sit about 5m to screen

Screen size 120inch 16:9

Controlled lighting

Screen 70cm above floor

Wall height 2.45m

Many thanks and regards

Eddie

no need tensioned in my opinion at this size... really needed going quite huge screens and 120" shouldn't be needed if go a quality screen

should be able to pick something up in the 1 ~ $2k range will get flat white gain 1-1.1 from likes of grandview or screen technics which both will do just fine with your epson.

I wouldnt go for the fancy coating ones... all can cause own issues... sparkles to very narrow cone of viewing... Id avoid grey as pretty much then give up ever being able to do pure white....

I listened to the podcast that had out own Tony O'Brien interviewed on it, and was somewhat surprised to hear him say during the interview that he was a fan of Grey screens.

I doubt that he being a professional calibrator, would not be able to get a pure White on a Grey screen......how he does it might be need to be a topic of discussion in the Calibration section.

I'm speculating it would be something to do with calibrating Blue in the lowest IRE's

I haven't tried Grey screen in over a decade.

Here you go.

A explanation on the differences between White and Grey screens RE Calibration.

Seems more to do with available light output from the PJ more than anything else.

Something that was pretty low with most PJ's back when Grey screens first made a appearance, so like anything, things have changed.

Hey Eddie,

FWIW I have a similar setup for the past 2 years.

Epson 9400

Screen - 150" Carson Cellio motorised

Was my first foray into PJ but have been very happy. Setup still has a regular (old) plasma TV which can be watched instead but the motorised screen comes down when wanted (use a Logitech Harmony remote programmed). We use the PJ for general TV/gaming/movies etc every day both night and day (probably is on 4-5 hours a night every night!) Room is not "PJ friendly" as poor light control except at night but is still very good picture and while washed out in bright sun, is watchable (although I tend to use the plasma then although very hard once you are used to watching 150"...)

Per the photo - similar dimensions to yours (there is a window behind the screen) Ceiling height 3200. PJ ceiling mounted about 5m from screen.

Thanks all gents above.

I actually still ordered a tensioned 120inch 16:9 in grey ceiling flushed box, consider trigger control both PJ and screen to AVR,hopefully to open avr then Projector comes on screen comes down.

Starlight Ceiling with shotting star and other features.timber diffuser behind screen.

I use hifi and HT in one room..pretty hard to achieve best result in both directions

Good for you, I hope it all looks magnificent.

Don't forget to post pictures of your setup once you have it up and running, with your impressions

Will do, currently redesigning acoustics for hifi.

Printed starlight in recessed Ceiling

Timber diffuser behind roll down screen, finalising walls at the moment.
