Simon900 Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 Hi Guys, I'm currently running a Integra 60.7 surround pre-amp and an ATI 5 channel power amp, and I'm not really happy with the sound for stereo listening. So I'm looking at getting one of the cheaper Chinese Reisong Valve amps, like the Boyuu MT-88. Has anyone done a similar set-up? I'm curious as to how it went. Getting a loaner might be impossible. Especially with this brand and I doubt a store would loan me a valve amp just to try out for a week. Any brands or suggestions would be a appreciated.
muon* Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 Looking at the sensitivity and impedance for those AC's you should be fine as far as driving them OK. Sensitivity (2.83V/1m): 88dB Impedance: 8 ohms (minimum 6.4 ohms) Can't comment on the build or design quality of the amp though, never seen inside one or seen a schematic for it. The AC speakers are often said to sound nice driven by valve gear.

When I first got them, I had them connected up to my mates Valve amp (can't remember the brand) in a bigger room, and they sounded great. But I'm now in a new place and have the new Amp and pre-amp which I didn't have at the time. So I want to re-visit them with a hard to justify new purchase. I'll check around and see if I can find someone to loan my a valve amp to compare.
muon* Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 Should work out well with AC's and Valves But you are right in testing the waters with a loaner, if possible. A few guys here used to rave about the pairing of Aurum Cantus 103's speakers paired with a Cayin KT88 amp.
Steever Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 I've used a Chinese integrated valve amp into smaller AC Leisure II SE speakers and it sounded superb. If I ever get the speakers back (my father has them now), I'd certainly consider doing it again. The valves through those ribbons is magic.

I loved them as mains when I first go them. Almost a waste to run as rears. Now to see where I can "borrow/loan" a valve amp. I'm considering a Willsenton R8 with the upgraded pre-amp valves, if I can get the idea past the financial controller. Which valve amp do you have?

I no longer have the amp but it was a Chinese made KT88 integrated from Bewitch. This, in turn, was a copy of one made by Puresound in the UK. Rated to 50wrms. It did a good job and pushed things along well. I moved from the ACs to Martin Logan Aerius i ESLs and again, very enjoyable. I should also point out, I cut and pressed new ribbons for my ACs using thinner foil. Treble was sublime when I'd finished that and a crossover rebuild using new caps and Kimber 4TC internal wiring with externalised crossovers. Edited July 2, 2021 by Steever
MattyW Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 (edited) I always wanted a pair of the V3F, or their big brother V7F as they're visually stunning speakers. Likewise Autrum Cantus speakers sound gorgeous. Back when I was running Aurum Cantus F620 speakers they were very easy to drive with tube amps and sounded fantastic. The best pairing I ever had with them was with a darTZeel NHB108B copy power amp and passive preamp. Just stunning. Edited July 2, 2021 by MattyW
