YANG Posted June 20, 2021 Posted June 20, 2021 it seems easily achievable... as the market won't be monopolized by high-end makers or just from Denon/Marantz group ...with more brands jumping into the pool. However, looking at our area of setup, space limitation, how are we going to be able to achieve the minimum of "above the head" soundfield?
cwt Posted July 15, 2021 Posted July 15, 2021 (edited) Hi Yang ; its a shame that Auro couldnt convince more audio mixers to encode soundtracks in Auro ; dolby and dts just had too much market recognition and the differing speaker positioning meant it was easier for manufacturers to go with the more compatible codecs .. As time goes by these become entrenched as a defacto standard ; when licensing fees are considered the ce is paying for auromax upmixing rather than the discrete sound mix which is quite rare on a disc . Consider too the edict that dolby tried to implement on cross matching codecs with the opposition if you were a licensee ; they were forced to can that following many complaints as that took away what you had bought .. Quote Dolby Changes The Game With Mandate To All Licensing Partners The ability to mix and match upmixers appears to be in danger. Here at Audioholics, we got our hands on a copy of a new mandate from Dolby that was recently sent to ALL of their licensee partners with the following guidelines: Native Dolby Atmos content shall NOT be up-mixed, surround or height virtualized by any 3rd party competitor upmixer (ie. DTS or Auro-3D). Channel-Based DD/DD+, Dolby TrueHD 5.1 and 7.1 codecs shall not be height virtualized by any 3rd party upmixer (ie. DTS). (This implies height virtualization without height speakers. DTS has this capability but Auro-3D does not). Edited July 15, 2021 by cwt
