I have a dream!

I was thinking that it would be great to have a stereonet room at the Melbourne hi fi show. Set up a simple system with a music server and just allow everyone to come through to select any track they like. No pressure to buy something, just a chance to hear something they like on a good setup. They could even listen to real music not just esoteric audiophile recordings of Rebecca pigeon. Music snobbery totally alienates average punters who just come in for a look. I am sure the collective might of the Melbourne stereonet group could contribute parts to make a great system. I would happily put forward my sooloos as a digita source.

I guess the only problem would be the price Chester group would want for the room.

would be a very large outlay just to play music to punters

Love the idea!  Maybe Marc could set up a "donate to the hifi show" function of some kind.  There would have to be a backup plan though, just in case the required amount wasn't reached.  I'd certainly throw a few $$ at it.

I would welcome a "community" managed StereoNET stand at the HiFi show.

I have asked for trader information on the show about 6 weeks ago, but have not received anything yet.

Are other exhibitors really that strict about music selection? I would have thought you could bring a CD or two and be able to play some tracks....

Yes!  not all but some are very fussy.  I suppose they dont want their kit to sound bad which is fair enough.  And that is quite aside from the sneer you get if you want to play "popular music".

given that we are not trying to sell anything could we petition for a lower cost.  (yes that would rely on altruism but....).  In theory we should be able to build a quite speccy system that would be a drawcard

Has there been any more feedback on cost or room availability?

Just received over the weekend yes. The cheapest room is ~$4500.00

There is "trade space" available though that might be suitable for a StereoNET "stand". I imagine a few pull up banners, brochures and flyers promoting the website, a couple of computers logged into StereoNET for prospective members to see what it's all about, and finally some members onboard to answer any questions about the site and for general chat would be great.

Trade space is fairly well priced:

Assuming my understanding of what "Trade Space" can be used for is correct, I would imagine we'd need 4-5 sq meters.

I may look at getting a promotional video made to promote StereoNET, on loop too if this was to go ahead.

After a phone call just received from show organisers, I can fairly surely say we will be present and having a trade stand as mentioned above.

It would be great to confirm attendance from members "manning" the stand across the duration of the show.
I think we will need to revisit the SNA merchandise for those attending to wear on the weekend also.

Cool, shirts, caps, coffee mugs... the possibilities are endless.

Would tatoos be going too far?

If you get a permanent StereoNET logo tattoo, I'll most happily pay for it! :)

Certainly Juicester. Consider yourself recruited!

I can help out as well although its not clear to me exactly what would be required! Just showing someone around a website doesn't sound that difficult. Or exciting for the participant. Am I missing something.

It's more about showing a presence of members - and a chance for us to all catch up obviously. Certainly there will be show attendees coming up showing interest in what we are all about, and having members on-hand to tell them about the experience will be most beneficial. That, and the fact that with some others present, I won't be tied to the stand for 2.5 days straight and might get to see and hear some rooms! :)
