skittlewood Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 (edited) Hi there. I will try not to waffle on but in short my current set up is. Arcam AVR 750 Monitor Audio GS60 JVC N3 Projector Playstation 5. Chromecast 4k. My AVR 750 is not HDR/HDCP2.2 compatible, so I am running my PS5 direct to my projector and using headphones.. Not ideal. I have tried to split the audio from the HDMi with an HDMi splitter but my amp is not picking up the digital signal. Also my amp appears to only output 4k @ 30hz. I use my amp for both movies, games and music. I am also a bit of a brand whore, and really like arcam build quality. Without breaking the bank, how would an Arcam AVR 550 compare to my current 750? (which is quite a beast for music) I note the 550 outputs 90w per channel and my 750's 100w per channel. Could I add a 2-channel stereo power amp to the 550 for an extra boost to music? Noted here > "This, however, is just the start. With processing for 7.2.4 channels, you can add a 4-channel power amp (or two stereo power amps)" Thanks for your time. skittlewood Posted December 9, 2020 Author Posted December 9, 2020 As a follow up, I tried to split the digital audio from the HDMI running from my Playstation 5 to my Arcam with this - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XRT9VGL/ref=cm_sw_r_wa_awdb_imm_t1_Em.TFbVXT41VX But it did not work. My receiver cannot read the digital optical signal. Would something from https://hdfury.com/shop/ perhaps be a better choice, solve this issue? Means I do not have to upgrade my amp.
kopidilo Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Your arcam avr does not support 4k and atmos/ dtsx I think. Atmos and dtsx really makes a day and night different to movies in the sq. Time to upgrade it. By doing that, u can then straightaway get 4k n hdr signals supported too. With that u can also add HD fury to spoof your player to output lldv to have dv-like tone mapping on your projector

Was hoping for a short term solution until the big expenditure for a new amp as I just bought the JVC n3.. Will start searching for the AVR 550 as that should suit my needs.
skittlewood Posted December 10, 2020 Author Posted December 10, 2020 I tried AV ONE but they are only stocking the new range AVR. Any ideas where else I could look for the AVR 550? Second hand is also fine. Have made a post in the classifieds.
kopidilo Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 (edited) Yea the cost will be high but it will bring your HT system to another level for sound and video. New Arcam will be very exp and used sets are very rare. One way to save movies is to temporarily get a used japanese flagship avr first (easily available) and camp for a used arcam set online. So that u can start enjoying the jump in sq and pq and bring some smiles. Used arcam can be a long long wait. Then sell away the jap avr after u get a used arcam (u won't lose much monies). skittlewood Posted December 12, 2020 Author Posted December 12, 2020 Thanks for the above dude. @kopidilo - i've located a couple of units in the UK so am going to look to ship them over and pair it with a p7 arcam pre-amp. Exciting times.
kopidilo Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 (edited) wow... UK? That's great. Are the sets there the same voltage as SG? Edited December 12, 2020 by kopidilo
