alvin01 Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 I've had my Marantz NR1605 for over 5 years now. In the past few months, I've been experiencing intermittent loss of sound from the front speakers. It happens to either the left or right front channels, and occasionally both channels at the same time. Everything could be fine when I'm listening to radio/music or watching the TV and the sound from one of the front channels will suddenly go off. Sometimes this happens when I change inputs, e.g. from tuner to Blu-ray, Airplay etc. I'm usually able to restore the sound from both speakers after unplugging and replugging the speaker cables, although this requires more and more attempts recently. I tried changing the cables and speakers but the problem is still there. The common denominator is obviously the Marantz receiver. It has been a rather frustrating experience and I would be most grateful if someone could point out possible causes for this. Is it time to retire the Marantz and look for an upgrade?
kopidilo Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 sorry to hear that your receiver is having issues. the feeling sucks... I would do a factory reset to see if the problem still persists.

By resetting, it means I’ll need to run Audessy again I suppose, amongst other things. It’s behaving for now so I might try factory reset the next time it happens.
alvin01 Posted November 16, 2020 Author Posted November 16, 2020 Just thought I'd give an update. A kind bro messaged me with the following suggestions:- "Either the HDMI board, headphone jack, speaker output relay, relay control, etc, is faulty. You may try the followings to narrow down the search: 1) When sound cut off during movie (through HDMI), plug in headphone to the headphone jack and see if u can hear sound from the headphone. Remove the headphone if u can hear sound and see if the sound returns through your speakers. If yes then the headphone jack is faulty. 2) Keep a pair of RCA cables connected from you CDP to the analog IN of AVR. When the sound cut off during movie (through HDMI), switch AVR to Audio IN and play your CD to see if you hear the music from your CD. If yes, then the HDMI board is likely faulty." I tried both tests but the problem persisted. I had to unplug and replug the banana plugs a few times before I got the sound back. While the above didn't solve my problem, I thought I should share them as it may help others. As a last resort, I did the factory reset but it still didn't solve it. I've had to unplug and replug the speaker cables to get it going again. But this is only temporary and the problem comes back. Looks like I have reached the end of the road so a replacement is due.
