I heard so much of the interconnect making a difference to the sound.

I intend to buy a Marantz cd player to replace the Philips cd player and like to venture into the world of audio interconnect without burning a hole in my pocket.

The interconnect would be for connecting the cd player to the 2 channel rotel amplifier.

A search at the audio sites shows there is a wide range in price.

Mine is a humble set up, a reasonable interconnect will do as long as it is audibly better than the red and white provided in the box.

What would your suggestion be if I were to get the ready made or if I go to Sim Lim for diy, what would be the cable and the interconnect that you would recommend.

Thanks for your inputs.

QED Profile is very good value for money, for $50, it is worth a shot for you. Else for DIY, you can look at Canare & Belden cables.

not sure what is considered reasonable, but you can check out infinite cables at SLT. they have different price points (belden, canare, up to their in house cables which should cost $100 with change).

definitely value for money, they also can do custom lengths.

I recently bought the QED Profile.  Although i dont really hear any difference in sound quality if i compare with other known brands but i am assured QED is an established company and at least have a decent QC to check build quality.  But i do hear difference compared to those cheap red/white rca cables...

Thank you. Assuring to know that the upgrade is not wasted.

On a side note, how long would these interconnect cables last, assuming that it is subject to the usual fair wear and tear but not abused.

i don't think they will outright break or not work (poor workmanship aside) but possibly, if you unplug them and don't use them the connecting tips MIGHT oxidize.

If u're not particular about brand name, u can go for those sold by our local talents jsng and themoment. Have heard that they are pretty good VFM. I just bot a $100 phono cable from him for my $20k turntable ?

I bought mine 2days ago from a carousell's didide.

Originally wanted to buy an RCA cable and he offered me to test his pure silver RCA and USB cable. Decided to give it a try as his pure silver are 6N OCC sourced from same supplier for doublehelix cables, and offered me 100% refund if I don't like it.

Not sure if his pricing is good, charged me $200 for a pair of 0.75m RCA. The cables are quite thick.

Third day listening. My first experience with pure silver too.

The soundstage imaging is different, there is a lot more 'air' in the music and musical expression more realism, more lively and engaging. And unlike what most ppl comment about silver, its not fatiguing and got some warmth to it. Bass is little bit less punchy but has this soul or life in it. Very hard to put in words, but I like it.

New to silver cables. Would $200 for rca and usb cable respectively be a keeper deal? Have few days more to decide keeping or returning it.

at least it doesn't seem to expensive.

wonder rca cables or speaker cables in sliver will make more difference.

speaker cables i suppose?

maybe can try if not too expensive.

I think speaker cables will be very expensive. . I heard a friend bought a pair of silver speaker cables from QED or Audioquest (can't remember) $4000+. Ouch!!

that's the thing about buying brand name ones, usually nothing less then 2k, and usually is still low end stuff.

$200 6N OCC pure silver RCA cable and $200 6N OCC pure silver USB cable is a keeper then.

I think it's a good deal, the carousell seller says he's selling at cost price as a trial item. My gain, his loss haha.

they can say whatever they say, just make sure to you it is worth your money, you enjoy it, and forget about the part where it's his "cost price" i never ever believe that.

This is getting off topic but I did some research (10mins) and will take it face value with the "cost price" claim. Helps when the seller followed up with some extract of the material lab report and his supplier's quote. Im willing to believe theres still nice ppl in our audio circle.

Back to topic, after trying silver interconnect for few days I feel ready to say its a keeper. Call it placebo or psychological effect but the sound signature I experience now is closer to how it sounds in those high end exhibitions.

If the wires used are genuine  6N Pure Silver, the price you are paying for 1m pair of RCA is a steal.

I have my own fair share of DIY interconnects experience and Pure Silver wires doesn't come cheap.

I think most people who commented or heard Silver interconnects and say they sound sharp, fatigue, etc most likely they are hearing low grade Silver Plated Copper whereby the silver plating is very thin.

Thick Silver plated or pure silver cables should sound smooth with extended highs.

But at the end of the day, it's not the price, material or brand that matters.

Most importantly is you like the sound it produces in your own setup.  ?

Recently I'm also trying out new pair of silver and copper interconnect.

The silver and copper cables are  distinctly different in characteristics.

Both can achieve good or bad results depending on the setup. Result is very system dependent.

For eg I like my Harbeth speakers using silver rather than copper. Vice versa I preferred copper with my Audiovector.

Thanks! I'm enjoying it. I think you are very accurate that pure silver sounds smooth with extended highs, which to me is probably airy sound or "hifi" signature.

75cm pair, Im convinced now its a good deal.

Ive tried many different copper RCA cable, some gimmicky ones even.

Agree the difference between copper and silver is much bigger than any 2 different copper RCA. Silver is just a new experience, still in the excitement mood.

i never always thought silver plated ones are not worth the time/ money, either copper or pure silver.

would be nice to try a pair of pure silver speaker cables.
