I'm looking for a small foot print network player for my dsd compatible DAC.

Any one has experience with the latest SOtm SMS 200 Ultra?

How does it stack up against a mid level Melco or  Aurender?

I have a SMS200 Ultra and a Melco N100. I have a preference for the N100. Haven't heard any of the mid-level Aurender streamers for a while so I can't comment on that.

If Roon matters to you, that rules out the Melco. Please check any of your choices for compatibility with your DAC. Sometimes, they won't play nice, especially on DSD playback.

Are you comparing with Melco and SOtm with their power supply?

I'm not using Roon

I have the SMS 200 Ultra Neo version when it first launched.. To me the software interface to set it up is too tacky but roon playback is a smooth experience. Since TS don't play roon it negates the advantage. Never had Aurender or Melco in my system before but compare to Innuos Zen, SMS 200 Ultra sound slightly denser and have more weight to the sound. But the difference is really small though. However compare to using laptop/PC direct to DAC, its a huge improvement imo.

However one thing to note is that it's awfully hot and the reason why i sold it subsequently as i used for desktop setup. I actually think that it generate more heat than my desktop tube amps but ymmv. The local dealer for SOTM is flexible so you might want to check with him whether he can loan for a home trial.
