Keep a lookout for the 4K HDR release when it comes out end of the year. Simply watching the 1080p rip last night, I am awed by how good the color rendition and the clarity it exhibited. The colors are vibrant and really showcase the best of HDR. I will definitely be getting the physical disc as it is hard to get a stellar 4K HDR transfer these days. If Disney + digital streaming quality is anything go by...I'm pretty sure it will be even better :)

Watched it yest on big screen with family. exciting movie for us.

Wow at Mulan's house there. the colours r awesome.

I love 1 part when the bad guy Bori Khan is fighting the king at the bamboo tall tower there.

His dialogue is coming from front heights there petty obvious. ( will need to rewatch that scene)

Definitely worth to get a 4k HDR copy.  Hope looking forward to have  good SQ too

PS:  Saw report that her daughter urge her to film Mulan.

It's Disney Happiness for everybody cheers . :)

Yea that scene with Boris Khan talking down to the emperor from a high altitude. But apart from that, I thought the Atmo effects only used sparingly. The only times that are more active for the Atmos channels are the witch turning into a rock of ravens and flying overheads.

I will focus on the brilliant 4K HDR transfer instead for this movie.

You know what, I can hardly recognise Jet Li :P ;D

Also I felt weird when the dialogue is in English ;D

But it’s a watchable movie with excellent color tone :)

What? is he in the movie? Gosh ?

Surprised me too so look again and try to spot him ;D

Yeah.  Took me by surprise too.  What?  Jet Li's in it?  Where?

That's where I replay and true enough saw that it was indeed him.  I thought it was another chinese actor, couldn't remember his name.

This is a Disney movie and not the typical HK or China period flicks with lotsa gore. English was the original dialogue. Definitely no Chinese version unless dubbed.

The theme song Reflection has so many versions. I prefer the Chinese version by the actress

will it come out with chinese version ?

She can sing too.. Unfortunately she is already 33 and won't have many years to play youthful roles.

Surprise Jackie Chan is not in this movie. Donnie Yen looks so old now.

The version by Christina Aguilera was terrible with a lot of synthesised bass. Erhu was missing too.

If you ask me, I would prefer Lea Salonga’s original soundtrack in Mulan 2000, the animated film! Her voice is crystal clear, controlled and persuasively powerful ;D

Watch it last night and it was very disappointing. It's a Western movie and a western interpretation of Chinese culture. The costumes, make-up, etc are almost identical to Fu Manchu's "evil empire" style. The script is very shallow and I almost walk away half way during the movie.

Haha...that's the reason "why" I mentioned in this post. The movie also doesn't work for me. Wooden acting and it feels weird when all Chinese cast spoke in English.

AMDK money AMDK perspective, even if they want to make the female characters like street hooks, and they can strike off the female leads names if they protests... replace with other Asian faces...

Yes we all can critisize the movie etc etc but look deeper, there's no denying that we Chinese regardless of citizenship are becoming far too important for the West to overlook in terms of commerce etc.

yes no so good .the essence of chinese culture and history not well portrayed in english dialogue. fight scene also average only. not sure why they spend so much to make this movie?

it wasn't as bad a movie as I was expecting. Visuals are striking on the HDR version. Atmos was noticed in a few scenes (arrows flying overhead from memory) but not particularly memorable.

I read somewhere that this is like going to a West End Fusion Asian Chinese restaurant and ordering a Chinese dish.

But in all honesty, it is no worse than The Great Wall. If anything, the Great Wall was more egregious - because that had a Chinese director who should have known better.

I didn't like that the musical aspect of the original animated movie was removed. The lead singer's voice at the closing credits wasn't too bad but the version that will always be the seminal version must be Coco Lee's one. I really liked her English rendition, preferring it to Christina Aguilera's (both original and the 2020 version). I think Coco only sang the Mandarin version for the 2020 release

All in all, I did like the cameos from Ming Na Wen at the end *heart*

Oh yes...for fleeting moment only. :P

So we can safely conclude that the movie is so-so but the visuals rendered in 4K HDR is breathtaking...the question is, will you get the disc when it is release in a couple of month's time? :)

Ever since I got DisneyPlus I haven’t been buying that many titles. The last sale I did get some movies that I had always wanted - Spiderman Far from Home and the original Star Wars trilogy and Rogue One. I already had Last Jedi but didn’t feel compelled to get Force Awakens or Rise.

I’m guessing Mulan would be the same. I’d expect it would get into the free section of DisneyPlus at some stage.
