Jagdpanzer Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 I was walking around in Aldephi yesterday and it has been months since I last visited. A few Hifi/HT shops, e.g. CD Acoustics, KEC etc. which have been there for decades seem to have ceased operation. Or have they moved somewhere else? Hope they are OK.
S1chen Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 CD acoustic move up to the 4th floor at the same side of his previous unit but deeper toward the right end. KEC move down to the 1st level but currently renovation.
zephyr11 Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 there was a cd shop that closed down though. i think some of the others are moving around. i did read about kec moving down.

blue_starfish Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 New Disc Village closed in March IIRC This case is not because no biz. Ernest had planned to retire this year from long time ago.
BlurRhino Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 This case is not because no biz. Ernest had planned to retire this year from long time ago. I think he really retire at the right time. happy for him but sad that one less place to go in adelphi.
whoizzit2 Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 This case is not because no biz. Ernest had planned to retire this year from long time ago. Sad to see him out of business cos of retiring. Always had a great time chatting and buying lps from him. Missed the lelong sale he did before he close down though. All the best to Ernest .
blue_starfish Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 Sad to see him out of business cos of retiring. Always had a great time chatting and buying lps from him. Missed the lelong sale he did before he close down though. All the best to Ernest . I am sure Ernest is happily retired. Although the plans he made to see the world have to be put on hold till the borders open and safe to fly. I have been patronizing his CD shop since he started at the old Sembawang Shopping Centre some 30 years ago. It was his second career. The older bros will remember Sembawang SC as the place for audiophiles in the north. There was Audioline (now at Orchid CC), Jay Audio, Sembawang Music (now no more) and Ernest. Some more audio shops I cannot remember.
Jagdpanzer Posted June 24, 2020 Author Posted June 24, 2020 Now less one nice vinyl shop to visit in Aldephi where you can hang out and chitchat with the owners. Those at basement ..Memory Lane and the shop opposite, unfortunately do not stock Chinese LPs.
Apman Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 Sad to see him out of business cos of retiring. Always had a great time chatting and buying lps from him. Missed the lelong sale he did before he close down though. All the best to Ernest . Ernest told me he open in July, maybe he is taking a break, didn't ask in detail.
DJQ Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 maybe its just me. i always prefer to buy from NDV. now i realize since Feb, i have not bought any CDs.
theaudience Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 Roxy price is like "tbd".. as there is no price tag.
zephyr11 Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 ^^^^^^^^^ ah, really ah? i got some from them during CB from the store. it was NOT the owner i think. yes, it was quite annoying to check price for every piece, though they had prices on their used ones. maybe should just buy from their website.
theaudience Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Yes, that's right. I remember the assistant got to call the boss like 10 times when I was browsing and asked the price. Faint.
Jagdpanzer Posted June 26, 2020 Author Posted June 26, 2020 I didn't know they now sell online. I think his son is now helping out. I don't like to deal with that old fat botak.
alamak Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Surprised to see a few bros here also facing the same shxt from the old snobish fart from Roxy. Anw, we vote with our $$. Sad to know Ernest retired.. :'(
zephyr11 Posted June 28, 2020 Posted June 28, 2020 thanks for sharing, good to know, then i'll likely just buy online, but they aren't very updated with their online store, paid for a few then some OOS. then choose another, also OOS. :(
whoizzit2 Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 Oh Ernest will be back in business soon? Cos i thought he is retiring fr the scene. But if he does come back, good also. His price are good i find. Ernest told me he open in July, maybe he is taking a break, didn't ask in detail.
zephyr11 Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 ^^^^^^^^^^^ i was around adelphi yesterday, saw the gentleman (ernest i think, i don't know him by name) in the same space, where he had a shop, with another LP only setup. WOW acoustic. supposedly opening soon.
DJQ Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 That's not Ernest, he is HK Loo business partner with Retrophonic. Wow Acoustic LLP is another of their business entity. selling premium LPs and Project TT.
