dbchoong Posted May 16, 2020 Posted May 16, 2020 I have the free trial TPG over the past year. Came with unlimited (2Gb/day - then throttled) data. Had no voice/sms. For the trial SIM, connection underground (basement carparks, MRT underground, etc.) is totally non-existent. So, end up - barely used the TPG SIM. I think TPG failed to get license for 5G. So, at least for the next few years - it won't be able to offer 5G when it becomes standard (maybe 2021 onwards?). Since it's no lock-in contract - guess no harm trying? Can always switch again.
desray Posted May 16, 2020 Posted May 16, 2020 Yep...I heard the only weakness for TPG network is when you are underground like basement car Parks and tunnels in the SMRT train...otherwise it is pretty good for normal usage. FWIW I’m using their $10/mth for 50GB plan ISIM Only)...so far so good. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Boxerfan88 Posted May 16, 2020 Posted May 16, 2020 TPG has to build their own network, as a new player, they are far behind the 3 incumbent in terms of coverage. If you need better coverage, it’s either a MVNO riding on the incumbent network, or going with one of the 3 incumbents. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Boxerfan88 Posted May 16, 2020 Posted May 16, 2020 If one doesn’t do much video streaming on the phone, 5G is of not much use, similarly with 4G. My iPhone XR 4G is turned off, for longer battery life. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
KopiOkaya Posted May 16, 2020 Posted May 16, 2020 Have been using them since last year too... No major complaints except for the lack of underground coverage in MRT and certain buildings. When M1 fiber broadband service went dead two days ago, I depended on TPG network hotspot via phone to my laptop to complete my work. If not for their unlimited plan, a lot of work can't be done. I used about 1.6GB that day (M1 offers me only 4GB/mth).
