My colleague experience similar racism but suffered a much worse beating by young racist thugs in UK over 30 years ago when he was doing his undergrad. He was hospitalised for a few days....

I personally experienced verbal racist abuse when studying in Sydney almost 20 years ago....

Last year while holidying in Perth, young punks openly said 'fxxking asians' while my family walked past them in the mrt station.....

Really salute those who can tolerate such racism and migrate to these racist countries..... one day your luck runs out and u may end up in hospital or worse.....

For those who have not watched the movie 'Blinded by the light', pls go see it if you want to know how prevalent and deep seated racism is in the UK. Although the movie is not about racism, it depicts racism naturally and realistically. Little primary school age kids already start honing their racism skills...

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've been living in Australia for 5 years now and I've never been racially abused before. Maybe looking at people in the eye and saying hello with a smile helps a lot, but all I get are friendly greetings and chit-chat.

In fact I find angmos too friendly, sometimes even total strangers can chit-chat for 30 min on the street.

Another aquintance of mine went to Paris with his extended family 2 years ago. I asked him how was his holiday upon his return and he basically cursed out loud and said he will never go to France ever again even if you pay him to go  :o

He related not only being racially looked down upon but was also robbed by gangs of young street hoodlums...

Apologies if out of topic here  :P

Sad to hear about the Jonathan Mok case.

My experiences have been quite different for some reason, perhaps I've just been lucky.

Lived in London for almost 5 years doing my undergrad and postgrad studies from 1990 to 1994 and never had any racist experiences. In fact I love London and still do. I used to wonder around central London late into the evenings, especially after a party, watching a show or a night out with friends and yes in and around Tottenham Court Road area as well. It was one of the best times of my life honesty. I made lots of friends of difference races and still keep in touch with some of them.

Perth is so big that i wouldn't be surprised that u may have encountered such cursing in the suburbs.

In Perth city, there are too many Chinese run stalls and shops, supermarkets with Chinese staffs, through their accent, you could identify whether they are from HongKong, Taiwan, or Singapore Malaysia origin. Fremantle area also quite populated with good percentage of Asians, i don't encounter such cursing 2yrs ago when i was in Perth.

From my observation then, it seems Perth is the most favorite migration place for Singkies and JiuHukias. While Adelaide with Hongkies and Taiwankias. GoldCoast/Brisbane with Siamkias and Melbourne with Watnamkias...

Uk is now the sick man of Europe. Weak laws and penalties are real reasons that gangs and hoodlums are running the streets.

Paris is quite notorious in crime rate, when compared to other "states" in France. Even my colleague don't feel safe in Paris when she was there with her fit fit Hubby. Chinese in Paris is like a big cheese for Parisian Rats, all these we have to thank the comrades from Mainland China who flaunts their fortunes there!

LOL. Ya man... I also just remembered my previous female tenant (she was a banker) few years back, she went to Paris for holiday and got picked pocketed on the bus in Paris. She stayed with us for 5 years plus and go for holidays a few times a year. Never heard her complain except the Paris holiday.... better beware if you are chinese and heading to Paris...

Not just Paris. All the European big cities like Rome, Athens, Prague have gangs of pick-pockets in the tourist areas. Some gangs are eastern European where the borderless EU allows them to easily come in. My friend's group was robbed at knife-point in broad daylight at a crowded tourist spot in Greece. Robbed of their phones, wallets, passports and cameras. Must be a common occurrence as no one intervened. The robbers were professionals and well rehearsed. Forcibly pushed them to the ground first,  took their bags and cameras at knife point, then disappeared. Leaving the victims stunned and bruised by the fall.

By the way, the title shouldn't  label other nationality useless.

When I was young, my Japanese karate instructor advised that even if you have a black belt, and when you are near hostile strangers, walk away or run, unless you are cornered.

I always tell young people that if you are being stared at by strangers, don't stare back fearlessly because you will never know how the hostile party will respond. Even Ipman does not engage in staring.
