dbchoong Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 Surprised no one talked about this World War I movie. I thought this was one of the better movies around. Keeps you at the edge of seat most of the time. Very good acting, great story telling, fantastic cinematography. The continuous shot filming is fantastic. The story is pretty simple - just 2 young soldiers sent to deliver an important message to save over a thousand soldiers from falling into a trap. Go catch it!
YANG Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 It takes months to complete a 2hr "single shot epic". Kudos to the editing job that managed to make the audience believes that the whole movie is done in one single journey of photography. If this wins Oscar for editing, the editors deserves well the rewards!

eggz Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 Watched it earlier this week on IMAX at Lido. Probably one of the most intense cinematic experiences I've had for a while. It was incredible. I knew going in that it was done to look like one take but I was still blown away. This method works really well for the story they are telling in particular in a war scenario. The set design is amazing, the attention to detail, can't imagine how long they had to rehearse and choreograph the action with camera movements etc. Just outstanding. I loved the movie and it deserves to win all the awards it's been nominated for. I'm telling my friends, don't miss seeing this in the cinema, especially on IMAX!
YANG Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 Visually stunning editing, undeniably. Audio wise... Not really a well done Atmos track to pursue for, a little disappointment for bass heads as well. Don't expect too much bass from mortar bombings, but rather enveloping music soundtrack.
lonewold_sg Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 I guess the editing was so good that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences think that none was done and hence the film was overlooked for 'Best Film Editing' for this year Oscars. Of cos, maybe there are more technical considerations why a film is selected or not selected. But for a layman like me, this film looks like a lock for the win for film editing - until I found out that it was not even nominated at all. I guess this just reinforces the notion that the Oscars is sadly out of touch and perhaps irrelevant to movie-goers nowadays. I mean, why was the last time you watch the award show? And do you really care who wins Best Picture or Best Actor/Actress anymore?

I mean it was not nominated for the Best Film Editing category - not that it was not nominated at all for the other category.
