Drug peddlers, counterfeiters, scammers all over. Features on the main page is an event from 2011. Is there anyone still "maintaining" it? What happened? Hopefully this will never happen here  ::)

As long as I'm still around...we'll not fall into this "state". But for us to ensure that, we need members cooperation to work with us and not against us.

We need you more than ever bro!

Our forum began as a place to share HIFI info and help one another, and IMO, it should stay this way.

There are plenty of places for discussions on other topics and if you see what happened to renotalk (which deals with renovations), it's filled with ads, and the number of posters has dropped drastically.

Open the unread page here sometimes and you think you have stepped into that forum. Keep up the good work!

Newer generation home buyers will tend to go to HWZ where they can chat with their "peers" on reno matters. Each generation of forumners will tend to gather according to their same age of feathers. Who knows? HWZ one-day might lost it's gloss and shine, as another new generation forum pops out from nowhere?

the weird thing is someone renewed the domain in 2019 october. so someone pays for the hosting and domain name, but don't bother to manage it.

Desray, tbh, managing this website as a hobbyist side project isn't much better. Just seeing a slow death.

Then what do u propose we do? Commercialise it and do what HWZone do?

HardTruth. Hobbyist forums won't last for too long in small place unless the community is large that it hv participation of foreign members that also builds and strengthen the community. Each hobby will hv its time with small community of same interests. How to keep a hobbyist place alive and kicking, depends on how far we can reach out. In some forums, they prohibit members linking of discussion from another forums which may hv other groups of people of same interests. This i can comment that is a form of preventive measures to avoid the flow of fellow members attention to another "playground" or avoiding penetration of "bugs" from another ground.

We're blessed that our moderators do not enforce such plug to stop us linking threads from other place to here. However, we should not be too proud of our knowledge that built up thru discussion and learning from one another all these years in our special interest playland.

Commercialise it is the only way to keep it alive, or unless you have fervent members. Commercialisation isn't a bad thing, in this hobby, it may be win win.

Forum is old technology. You have numerous new tech that eats into the forum business. Social media and especially carousell.

Interesting coming from a forum member. Maybe we can consider membership subscription on an annual basis...for premium content and exclusive deals with dealers etc...sure we can consider that.

Title of this thread is "The sorry state of Echoloft"......  not "What Xtremeplace should do to follow Echoloft".  Membership Subscription...are you crazy?

Ah...never use SARCASM in public postings, my friend.....you no scare POFMA??

Coming from a fellow forumer, I can take it lightly....coming from a Global Moderator, I need to take it a little more seriously.

LoL...don't make a moutain out of a molehill. If you were to take some time to "read in between the lines"...it is actually a post "in response" to a member's post where he talked about the possibility of "commercialize" as one of a viable options to keep this forum alive and to which I replied, "maybe we can..." and "we can consider"...there is nothing affirmative and concrete. What constitutes a piece of fake news is when there is a tangible "impact" (let's not talk about national security here)....furthermore we are not a profit-generating entity and answerable to board of directors and shareholders...this is just a plain old innocuous tongue-in-cheek reply to generate a response and true enough...you bite the bait... :P

Don't take things too seriously at times. Chill.

Correction Direction:

In all seriousness. For the record, we (Admin and Mods in XP) have no intention to "commercialize" or expect members here to pay for any kind of membership subscription on a yearly basis just so one can continue to access this forum as a platform to make friends and share HT and Hi-fi knowledge. In addition, we also have no intention to collaborate with any dealers etc. So rest easy everyone.

There is no need to justify your statement with a long reply.  Just like there is no need to put in sarcasm about Xtremeplace when talking about the sorry state of Echoloft.

On the contrary, as rightly pointed out by you, I need to uphold the decorum befitting a Global Moderator. I think you "deserve" an explanation from me for the undue alarm and distress I have caused to you. That's the least I could do. :)

How's the Sony VW760ES ?

Or is it the role of a Global Moderator to nitpick on the users of this forum??

Echoloft state can be attribute to its targeted audience. I see them as a forum that has a bigger concentration of members only interested in buy and sell. This model can be easily replaced by carousell and any other buy/sell/trading website.

The real value of any hobbies forum is in the information sharing. A lot of information is still very much relevant despite more than 10 over years old such as subwoofer placement and usage of dual subwoofer.

Xtremeplace forum is coming 19 years soon. I very much hope to keep it as it is now. Just take it as our contribution back to the local small audio/home theater community by keeping a historical archive of our knowledge.

+1. That’s why we have been providing value added content through sharing of our own knowledge like tutorials, visits to members place and even member helping out members to get the best out of their HT setup. This is what sets us apart from the other local forums.

Or did I mistaken it for a different model?pls do share with members here in the dedicated thread on Sony projectors. It’s been very quiet these days.
