Hi

I have a 3m x 4m room that I intend to be used as a HT room. Ceiling height is 2.9m

Like to seek opinions on a practical speaker setup as below

7.2.4 or 7.2.6 or 9.2.4?

Thanks in advance.

5.2.4 (if you are hindered furnishing at the rear of your MLP ) or 7.2.4 (assuming you have the luxury to install Surr Back speakers) - assuming you are using dual subwoofers. Your room dimension almost same as mine and I'm doing 7.2.4.

None of the AVR out ther can true decode and mapping to x.x6 or 9.x.x , except you are talking of processor like Acurus/Datasat/Storm/Trinnov

May I know, in your setup, what is the difference between the back surrounds and seating?

Oh, that's good to know. I initially thought the Denon X8500h will be to do that. ?

What I am trying to convey here is that your MLP will determine whether you go for 5.2.4 or 7.2.4. If there are enough space behind your MLP (say 1.2m at least) then implementing Surr Back channels will provide a more enveloping and seamless 360 degrees effect at your MLP. But if there is not enough space, I’ll advise you to forgo the Surr Backs and opt for 5.2.4 as your height speakers will provide sufficient enveloping effects. Placement of Surr Backs too close with your side Surrounds will actually interferes with the overall experience.

Thanks for.the.note. MLP will be around 1.8m from the back. I guess that will be ok then. It ia pretty much an empty room, dedicated to HT

Sounds great. This will be the best time to experiment with speaker placement. You just need to do it once so do spend some time planning the speaker and subwoofer location. Good luck.

Sometimes less is best bro, and we don't know what speakers are you using?

Best to use small bookshelf speakers which act as point sources, rather than large tower speakers. Eg the KEF LS 50, or Sats like the Anthony Gallos for example. For a lower budget, the Usher 520 works nicely too especially since they are front ported.

As for the no of channels, 5.1.4 can be very nice, and avoids more interactions between speakers in too close proximity.. but sure you can try and squeeze 7.1.4 too... most importantly, your room isn't square and that's a big plus..

My room is slightly bigger, and if you are keen to take a look, you can pm me, cheers.

I will be reusing the 5.1.4 speakers from my solo den, which are Starke VS62, VS61 and VC62 with Gallos micro for Atmos.

As the new HT room is actually my Master Bedroom, there is sunk in wardrobe on one side of the wall, thus the side surround will be almost 90 degrees to the MLP. Then give me an option of having rear surrounds.

Looking for some advice too

My room is 3x7m ceiling height is about 3.1m

Planning to use processor + separate power amp

Option 1.

Using SF cremona for front, concerto grand piano center, and concerto grand piano for surround and surround back. 4 ceiling and 1 or 2 sub

Option 2

Using SF cremona for front, concerto grand piano center, infinity oreus sattelite for surround and surround back, 4 ceiling and 1 or 2 sub.

With option 2, I can use the grand piano in other room, but I still have other spare bookshelves.

Thank you

If it's not a dedicated HT room - I would suggest less is best.

Even a simply 5.1 system can be enjoyable. Besides it's a place for rest and sleep, only you can decide if you want so many speakers in a bedroom.. all the best bro

Lol...I guess I did not explain properly. Am turning my mbr into a dedicated ht room. We will be having our sleep in another bedroom.

In my unit, the mbr is the biggest room..lol
