greenie512 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Item: Pluto 2.1 - Siegfried Linkwitz design [less amps] Location: Chuwar [ipswich/Brisbane] Price: $400Item Condition: GoodReason for selling: Yes - New Year clean outPayment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: When the miniDSP first came out I realise here was an opportunity to build my first active loudspeaker. However, it would have to be a two way if I was going to use my MF X-AS100 amps [currently also for sale]. The Pluto's instantly came to mind but ha - surely they couldn't be that good with those modest drives. Well I'll eat my hat … and so does everyone else who's heard them - they're great. NOTE: (1) these are just the pipe cabinets and the drivers [+wired/posts) NOT with the Linkwitz active amps. You'll need some form of active crossover and four power amps. I think there may be passive crossovers out there on the web!! (2) One of the woofers [firing up] has a 'dent' in the dust cap but this has no detrimental effect on the sound. LOCAL PICKUP ONLY - these'd be really awkward to pack and would need large cases for transit. If you can organise something without my involvement then fine - over to you. I'm selling my Musical Fidelity amps I used for this project -see listing. As a package [MF pre + 2 power amps + pluto's] I'll sell the lot for $1,200 and I'll throw in the miniDSP for free. gainphile Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Steve, you're building a museum ? The Plutos are one of the most impressive / genius speakers I have heard. Give a man 5" woofer and a tweeter and he will design the ubiquitous bookshelves. Give SL the same and these marvelous wonders are invented!
sfdoddsy Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Well, I've got 2 six channel amps and three MiniDSPs currently unused, so I may as well try out some Plutos, potentially as surrounds for my Orions or for the lounge or bedroom system. Dunno how my sweetie will feel about the looks though.
gainphile Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I used to call them dunny pipe/sewer speakers. But ZM had a better name for them... "plumber's delight"
danter Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I have always wanted to hear a pair of Orions - and Plutos (as they are more attainable financially!). Just checked out your link sfdoddsy - very impressive stuff. Are you in Sydney?
danter Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Would love to drop over for a listen once you have them set-up. If I were bit more financial I would jump all over the whole set-up.
sfdoddsy Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 (edited) They might not arrive as Phil has had a local nibble for the lot. However, you're welcome to have a listen to my version of the Orions. There is a distinct possibility they will be alongside a pair of Apogee Duettas shortly. Edited January 8, 2013 by sfdoddsy
danter Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 If you could drop me a line once you have them set up - would love to hear them (and those Orions of corse!)
