Concert Fidelity DAC-040

Featured Replies

Is anyone using one of these DACs?

I have been using the 47 Lab Shigaraki DAC for the last couple of years and have decided to try the tubed CF DAC.

With respect tax, why ask if you are buying it anyway? No one here buys CF except you and Neville. Amazing gear btw but SERIOUSLY exxi.

And why bother with digital? Buy more records mate..or an Audio Systeme Vinyl Cleaner...

Your Jadis CDP you sold me is/was FAR superior to the 47 labs entry stuff. Are you still selling Jack's stuff?

Kind Regards

Andrew

I have never even heard of the Concert Fidelity DAC-040 before, let alone heard one sorry, so I went searching for info and it looks great:

http://www.enjoythemusic.com/superioraudio/equipment/0809/concert_fidelity_dac_040.htm

"Vivid harmonic colors, superb rendition of instrumental timbres, and an analog-like presentation that draws the listener into a spacious and solid soundstage. Zero oversampling truly is a gateway to a kinder, gentler, and ultimately more musical digital experience. It's hard to believe that a NOS Philips multi-bit DAC chipset can be engineered to put current 24-bit/196kHz Delta-Sigma DACs to shame, at least in musical terms."

I suppose you've considered similar but more affordable alternatives eg:

a. "killer DAC" as it uses the same design ethos but has had years of evolution to optimise its goodness

b. Audial USB DAC that has impeccable design credentials and a superb USB feed built in - if you have computer as source and use tubed amps Id expect this DAC to be very hard to surpass given its sophistication and 192kHz implementation of the TDA1541 for high res future proofing

Hi Andrew,

Happy New Year!

Yes, I should have held on to that Jadis :-(

No, never sold any of Jack's stuff.

Not much to do with my vinyl front end now, so am tinkering with the digital side of things :-)

I asked as there may be some unknown CF owners here who can share tips re tube rolling and a transport etc.

There are now 4 Australian based SNA members who own CF preamps that I know of.

Really? 4 owners? Gosh. CF is amazing stuff. Is Slippery Jas still the dealer for this part of the world - or do you import directly?

I'm not excited about 47 Lans except the top tier stuff - which is great but seriously over priced.

FWIW why wouldn't you forget digital and just go up in the vinyl world...DSD has a long way to come, after all.

Happy New year to you as well.

AS

ps as good as the Jadis CDP was the WTL Simplex/XX2/P75 saw it off, and by no small margin. But then you know all about the benefits of vinyl..

Thanks!

I have listened to a Killer DAC at Mario',OzMillsy's and the Sydney HiFi Show. I did't give it much thought as most of the implementations were continuously evolving.

I must look up the Audial. I don't use a computer as a music source a present.

For tubed Dacs, also check out the Lampizator levels 4,5 or 6 (NOS multibit 24/192 standard, DS optional). As well the AMR DP-777.

In a month or so, there will also be a DSD Lampi version.

Also, there is the PDX available locally.

Congrat's Tax. I am very curious to hear your thoughts on it. Did you order direct or through Jason?

but only 16 bits, if you feed 24 bits the last 8 will be truncated.

Excellent choice! I reckon your going to be in for a total treat.

Thanks!

Thanks all!

DAC arrived today. Something to be said about good digital minus the ticks and pops of vinyl.

Have posted some photos on the showcase thread.

Cannot stop spinning CD's at the moment :-)
