VA50 Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 I've got a cheap 80's marantz amp that i don't want in my collection that my mate wants. Like alot of the cheap 80's marantz amps it has no speaker relay. When you turn it on it gives a pop through the speakers. I have heard alot of these 80's amps do this but this one is the worst. Is there something i can do to stop this? or is it normal? I was thinking it could be the capacitor on the Power switch has gone bad and is alowing the contacts to arc because if i turn it on at the wall there is no pop.

Without knowing which Marantz amp you refer to, no one can provide a meaningful answer.

VA50 Posted December 31, 2012 Author Posted December 31, 2012 I'm thinking i will put a dc Protection relay into the amp using this kit http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DIY-Power-Delay-DC-Protection-Speaker-Assembled-board-kit-AC-12-15V-F-Amplifier-/280889764006?pt=AU_Electronics_Audio_Amplifiers&hash=item416655a8a6 If i bypass the Rectifier i will be able to run it off the auxiliary power out on the amp.
