Item: Kenwood KA6100 2 x 50WPC vintage amplifier

Location: Ingleburn, south-western Sydney - PICK-UP ONLY AT THIS STAGE, however feel free to EOI for shipping if you are interested

Price: $150 firm

Item Condition: Excellent

Reason for selling: Unused and surplus to requirements - my friend has recently upgraded his system

Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only

Extra Info: This is a very nice example of a Kenwood KA-6100. 2 x 50WPC into 8 ohms, both channels driven, 20hz to 20khz, 0.03% THD, and 2 x 70WPC @ 4 ohms. Note the 'DUAL POWER SUPPLY' moniker on the front panel. Whilst this amp does not feature twin transformers like the rare high-end models, there are two separate windings in the transformer which provide a separate supply to each channel. It's certainly a very lively amp with plenty of drive.

The twin power meters on the front panel look great, particularly when the light are dimmed. I love the selectable meter sensitivity switch which means you can get the meters moving around nicely at low power output levels.

She sounds very nice indeed. Crisp, clean Kenwood sound with arguably better stereo separation than my earlier Sansui AU-517, and a smidgeon more detail.

The amp has been recently serviced and has been given a clean bill of health, including the phono stage which was tested on 31/12/2012.

Cosmetically the amp presents very well. The main blemishes of note are some rash on the upper right-hand edge of the front face, some minor rash on the left hand side, and a mark to the right of the power switch. Otherwise, she's pretty clean for a late 70's amp!

The amp is pick-up only at this point in time, and the pick-up location is Ingleburn, south-western Sydney. However, please feel free to EOI for shipping if you are out of the area and I will keep you in mind if I decide to ship.

It's a cheap way to secure a nice looking vintage amp with power meters and a reasonable amount of power.

I owned one of these amps myself a while back and it looked silly with a Sansui sticker stuck over the Kenwood badge ( ;) ) so I ended up selling it (much to my regret). It was fully recapped and sounded quite nice indeed. I'm happy to discuss recapping this amp with the buyer if they wish.

I bought Pete's Kenny earlier this year, and I must say it is a cracker of an amp. I can listen to it all day. It's in the kids room and would be on at least 4 hours a day, sometimes up to ten, and has never missed a beat. I would recommend the recap option Pete has mentioned. You can't beat the looks and for the price you can't go wrong. Good luck with the sale Pete, it Shouldn't last long.

Cheers Dave.

If Pete doesn't mind me speaking for him......(he doesn't run a turntable, hard as I have been trying to get him into vinyl!)....

These Kenwoods have excellent in built phono stages. Kenwood are renowned for having great phonos.

This is an absolute bargain at $150. Even the lower powered amps in this and earlier series sell for more than this.

Indeed she does, however I haven't been able to test the phono stage as yet. If I manage to pull a turntable out of the garage for testing, I'll update the listing accordingly. I have no reason to doubt that it it's not working, but I'd like to be certain!

The bang for buck is very high with this amp.

Thanks Dave. I figured the pricing was a tad low, but I was hoping to pass this amp onto a SNAer for a good price. I appreciate your input re: the phono stage. I really must grab the SL1600 or Dual 505 from the garage and get cracking!

I have a friend who is very keen to get a new entry level amp and it needs an input phono stage, this could be perfect for him. pete_mac do you have any experience with Usher s520 speakers? Any potential amp would need to have enough power to drive them.

Hi Catherine,

I ran my Ushers off a KA6100 for a while and it drove them quite well, but not with quite the same the authority as my Sansuis.

However, the Kenwood is now sold pending payment :)

I have a KA-6000 and IMHO it's an excellent amp. I especially like the loudness switch which again in my opinion does exactly what I want a loudness switch to do. Good looker too. $150 seems a fair price.
