OCD Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Just wondering if anyone has/is using them? Are they any good? worth the money? They would be for a HT. Available from the following, and a few other places online. http://stonessoundstudio.com.au/stone/ribbon_speaker_kit/ribbon_speaker_kit_info.htm
Krypton Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 Hi Compass, I just noticed your post re Fountek/peerless speaker kits (stand mounts from Stones sound studio -Russell Storey). I assume that you are asking about the Artisan R360. I originally considered these but ended up building the floor-standers (R374-S). These speakers are also a two way but with a scanspeak woofer/mid range instead of the Peerless driver. I use them in my main system and they are easily the best speakers I have owned. Russell went to a lot of effort to match the individual drivers and crossovers (with high quality components), testing them and running them in. He also tailored these speakers to my domestic situation/room dimensions and requirements. I also put a fair amount of effort into the enclosures eg CNC cut out and two pack finish - done by a local a kitchen manufacture. The enclosures are highly braced and lined (details are proprietary) – they weigh 50-60 kg each. All up a fair amount of effort but well worth it. regards K
THOMO Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 You might be better off with the Peerless kits with the dome tweeters. I have Fountek ribbons and think they are great as semi super tweeters but not so great for lower treble[like most ribbons].They sound a bit wimpy to me.Good on some music but not so good on stuff that benefits from more dynamics and energy. The dome tweeters are likely to give a better all round performance.
