I am running a imac/audirvana(v1.4) - gd dac 5 ref - preamp etc

Got my GD dac yesterday and am having trouble when I connect my audiophilleo 2 into the dac - no sound.

I have changed the settings in systems preferences, audio midi set up and audirvana preferences.

I can play music through the dac's usb input okay but not the coaxial input with a/philleo 2.

Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.

I had the same problem when I first connected mine.

Check the LED flashing sequence on the AP2 to see if there is a problem with the AP2. The AP website has the diagnostics.

If you have the PP option, check the power cord ends are FIRMLY pushed into their sockets on the AP2.

Check all plugs to make sure they are firmly pushed in.

Pray.

almost certainly this is a software setup problem - the Ref5 is working and audiophilleo's are super reliable

Those settings look like they should work.

Nada's suggestion of checking the flashing LED codes on the AP2 is a good one.

Hi - thanks Mario - have another xmas beer !! Sorry - my sense of humor is on its way to the bin along with a/philleo and computer

Seriously considering bringing back my cd player into the system!

Meantime I can play itunes through the a/philleo (ie not using audirvana) through my system okay. So presume this means the audiophlleo and dac

is working ok.

Does this give a clue to you computer boffins?

Does this mean the problem is narrowed to something happening (or not happening) between audirvana - audiophilleo - audio gd dac??

My strong preference is to play through audirvana not itunes for sound quality reasons so I still need to resolve this issue.

kind regards

Hi - I think I have attached a copy of a screen shot of my settings.

could someone let me know where my error is?

kind regards

Ive no idea but if itunes works the problem appears to be in the Audivarna settings.

Try getting up the Audivarna settings box (the lower window in your screenshot) and click on the volume tab- make sure the volume is set at 100% and watch out it isnt naughty and resets to mute.

That dialogue box on the left "untitled 3" shows volume bars in the lower right of the box - I wonder what happens if you slide the volume buttons to the right? Also it shows upsampling to 96kHz - can you change the setting to native so you arent upsampling all the time?

Apples - they just work you know. Have a play around.

Or try a CD Player - they are very user friendly :)

Checking the "Audio Volume" settings in Audirvana is a good idea. If you have a pre-amp between your DAC and speakers, set Audirvana volume to "DAC only", which in the case of the Audiophilleo 2 will mean you just get 100% digital volume.

Thanks Kdoot - tried your suggestion and no joy!

Have now hand passed the problem to to Phillip of Audiophilleo.

Lets see what he comes up with!

Meantime playing music through the audiophilleo via vlc and sounds better than itunes - very surprised.

Hi Frank

As I said in my first post, have you checked the LED diagnostic lights on the AP2? They will diagnose your problem.

I have attached my screen shot as I am playing now.

The major differences could be the A+ set-up and the Audio Midi set-up.

Let's know how you go.

It seems a bit off target to ask Phillip of Audiophilleo to sort out your software hassles with Audivana to me.

Clearly the Audiophilleo and DAC are working just fine with everything but Audirvana. Isnt Audirvana payware? Surely they would have a great manual to guide you and give you support if still needed?

u can try to SET the VOLUME to SOFTWARE only. i think that should cure the problem :D

Thanks to all who are replying with comments/ suggestions which is highly appreciated!

Am going through them all - at nearly 62 years of age and not from a computer/technical background

I can get overwhelmed at times!

By copy to Nada - I have no problem reaching out to Phillip for possible help - there seems to be an issue between

Audirvana/audiophilleo. Audiophilleo seems possibly part of the problem and hence possibly a part of the solution.

Phillip has said he communicates directly with Damien of Audirvana as an when problems occur and Damien obliges

by coming up with fixes. I do not want to get into technical dialogue with both parties at same time - I would be hinderence

rather than help. If need be I will communicate with Damien of Audirvana directly.

This is the most recent communication with Phillip

"Hi Frank.

I am running 10.6.8 as well and so are many customers, I think, so that’s not the issue. I worked with Damien in the past to fix some compatibility issues so I don’t think this is it. I am downloading the latest Audirvana now…if I find problems I will email Damien and CC you.

Cheers

Philip"

kind regards to all

Ah, you're on Snow Leopard. Not sure if Damien still tests on that version... probably he does, but he's been so focused on doing "Direct Mode" work to bring the benefits of "Integer Mode" (and then some) to Lion and Mountain Lion.

In those Audirvana preferences, try turning off Direct Mode (because it might not be supported on Snow Leopard) and turn on Integer Mode (because it is, and the Audiophilleo works with it).

Would you consider upgrading to Mountain Lion? Cheap OS upgrade and would at least ensure you are on te platform that Audirvana is being developed on.

Just go into App Store and it will be offered.

Just a thought...

thanks suggestion re mountain lion. Will consider it - at the moment Phillip says he and a lot of his clients are using snow leopard

with a/philleo successfully so mine should work.

Still not sorted?

This must be very frustrating at this time of year.

If you want to stick with Audivana may I suggest trying the forum http://www.audirvana.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=5&sid=548b3dd89ec9a03211f72e5b30ba1ae6 as your more likely to find specific expertise related to your problem over there.

Otherwise if you have an old Windoze laptop at home doing nothing there is excellent freeware that sounds great and is not hard to set up.

Perhaps even better for you would be a setup that is not subject to OS and software changes with hassles down the line. Id suggest the SBT as it will run the audiophilleo with nearly the user ease and stability of a CDP.
