DoggieHowser Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 This might seem sacrilegious to some, discussing this upstart French duo who don't even really sing in the same breath as greats like Elvis, Rolling Stone, Sinatra etc. But there's something intrinsically very primal and energetic about their music. If you are trying to get an idea of what their music is like, I recommend these two albums: Alive 2007 - their live album is particularly frenetic with energy and the mash ups of their greatest hits are pretty impressive. It's just one long gapless album and I think is a good showcase of their work. Tron 2 soundtrack. I guess what better music to describe the digital world of Tron than these two (who even get a cameo in the movie). I particularly like Adagio for Tron which is an amazing departure from their traditional body of work. Derezzed and End Titles are closer to their traditional stuff.
pete_mac Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 Alive 2007 is amazing and holds a special place in my heart. I went to their live gig at Sydney and it was superb. Easily in my top 5 gigs. I also respect their ability to take samples from obscure tracks and turn them into incredible tracks. There's a good YouTube vid which shows the various examples of them doing this.
LogicprObe Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 (edited) This is a great thing. http://www.najle.com/idaft Edited December 22, 2012 by LogicprObe
DoggieHowser Posted December 22, 2012 Author Posted December 22, 2012 This is a great thing. http://www.najle.com/idaft Yeah I even got the iPhone app I hooked up a long USB cable earlier to the Wavelink HS USB SPDIF and then to the Ayon CD5S in the study earlier to test some functionality in Amarra and ended up using that setup to play the PC version. Pretty awesome tho my timing sucks
epos Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 They have a new album coming out next year, thinking about going to Europe for the tour
DoggieHowser Posted December 22, 2012 Author Posted December 22, 2012 Upstart? Homework was fifteen years ago! In the scheme of things of the "Talking..." series that was recently started, yes.
pete_mac Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 A pic or two from the Alive 2007 gig mentioned earlier. Epic stuff.
mondie Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 Always been a bog fan of the Daft, do check out their early albums Homework and Discovery are where its at. get them on vinyl and scare yourself with the raw dynamics, a few here have had the pleasure of hearing these LP's through the ADAM's and they are spectacular.
Asteroid Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 ^ Yep. Just played the wax of Discovery, their best work imo. You may also like to look up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irr%C3%A9versible_%28soundtrack%29 which is Thomas Bangalter's earlier solo work.
Newman Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 I started with Discovery and worked backwards. REALLY loved Discovery. Introduced my then-teenaged elder daughter to them and it became a shared fun space. We also 'discovered' Interstella 5555, which is an uncommon thing: an Japanese anime film made to fit the complete Discovery album, in its entirety, in sequence, no edits, no sound effects. It is also an opportunity to hear the full Discovery album in DTS 5.1 surround. So cool!!
