I'm told Thunderbolt's Way is an even better option. Anything though would be better than the Pacific.

Yep, the coast road is for mugs during the school holidays. Thunderbolts is beautifully scenic but slow and no good for motion sickness sufferers. The New England (and Putty Road) are the perfect compromise.
