hugo_wilco Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 Just picked up some Psvane 12AT7 and 12AU7 for my phono section. Have to say I am mightily impressed. Straight out of the box these sound great. Anyone else using them?
Bronal Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 (edited) I use Psavane 845s in my Consonance monoblocks and 6CA7s in my Audion Sterling EL34. I haven't had a moment of trouble with them (so far). Construction is excellent and the 845s hold their bias perfectly. The only nuisance I've found is lack of suppliers to choose from. Where did you get yours? Edited December 21, 2012 by The Butcher
hugo_wilco Posted December 21, 2012 Author Posted December 21, 2012 I bought mine from Tommy at Focus Siund and Vision in Richmond VIC.
LogicprObe Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 I've never heard of them! Ahh....... http://psvanetube.com/wordpress/category/faq/ Free worldwide shipping!
ehtcom Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 Yeah, tried four 2A3 in a 2A3 push-pull amp. Power output was well down (3.5wpc) compared to the Shuguang and Full music 2A3 (8wpc). One failed after 4 weeks of very moderate use, maybe 10 hrs. Sound wise I preferred the Full Music and Shuguang. Cheers, Earle.
hugo_wilco Posted December 21, 2012 Author Posted December 21, 2012 Hi Earl Have you tried any of their input tubes? If so how did they compare to the full music?
valvelover Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 I've heard of them, but I've heard them die nastily or take an amp with them. I'd be very cautious using them without making sure that they're fully suited to the valve amp in question. Dave

If you are suggesting that they can fail and ruin amps, can you be more specific? Thanks
valvelover Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 A guy I was talking to on one of the US audio forums who has the same amps as me - he tried the psvane 845 tubes in his monoblocs and had 1 channel fail. I'll stick to Shuguang thanks. Dave

I'll stick to Shuguang thanks. Dave Well I've got basically the same amps as you Dave and I've had mine in for nearly two years without a problem. In fact one of my Shuguang 845BS was DOA.
valvelover Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 I'm only going on what another member had said to me from another forum that I rarely inhabit. I think a google search from memory found another person who had problems with psvanes and their amp dying...finding it would be like winning the lottery now lol! As usual, caveat emptor. LogicprObe Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 Any valve having a catastrophic failure can short out internally and take a few components with it. It's pretty rare though.
valvelover Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Yes, it could have been the amp, but they were working perfectly fine until the new psvane 845 valves were put in place. Almost immediate problems. The chance of a coincidental problem like that happening at the exact same time as the valve swap over? Better odds of winning Lotto imho. I believe (at least) with the 845 valves, that they do not run on standard operating specs for the 845 valve as published by Western Electric. Dave
