Luc Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Love the meter in the middle Gordon, I'm contemplating trying a tube intergrated to see what my Preludes sound like with one in the system. I can't really afford monoblocs and all the cabling etc etc(I wish I could) but...I'd really like to try a valve amp. Cafad has his Magnusson up for grabs and Mario gives it humungous wraps on the manufacturer's website. The Richter looks the goods.
Gordon Macfarlane Posted December 20, 2012 Author Posted December 20, 2012 (edited) Hi Luc , Still haven't fitted your lovely wood panel. Bought a new built dac and am in the process of putting all the good bits from the 2 TDA1541A dacs into one box. Will send you some pics once it's all done. Just doing a bit of surfing this arvo and came across the Richter amp. No real info on the website but I am guessing the amp comes from the same Chinese? firm that makes Richters cabinets. Pretty looking amp with built in USB dac , price is pretty reasonable too. Got a link to the Magnusson amp ? Have a great Christmas and new year and thanks for all your work this year. G PS : Think Mario has long since moved on from Joe's modded amp. I think the Minda 75 integrated is the recommendation these days? Edited December 20, 2012 by Ozcall
mikey d Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Saw them at the Sydney hifi show. The amps were driving the Richters very nicely & they are designed by Elson Silva. So there you go, great Aussie design but costs kept lower by overseas manufacture.

That does look like a nice amp, I was wondering what had happened to Richters website, my old link is so far out of date it's not funny. Hang on, "Magnusson"? That sounds like one of those jokes I'm not cool enough to get. My amp is a Joe Rassmussen JLTI EL34.

Phantom Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Looks great and I don't have a tube amp yet......hmmmm Anyone know what sort of coin they sell for?
Gordon Macfarlane Posted December 20, 2012 Author Posted December 20, 2012 (edited) As per the website $1799 Edited December 20, 2012 by Ozcall
Phantom Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Touche. Thanks for that, I am just feeling lazy today
Phantom Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 I know this is OT, but does anyone here know what these speakers are like? I know almost zero about them except that they are very inexpensive. Does this translate to cheap&cheerful but not for serious listening? I reckon it does, but maybe I'm wrong
Cafad Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 I had a pair of Wizard Mk3s for 6 months a few years ago, and then a pair of Merlin Mk4s last year. They are good, solid speakers of high quality construction and decent sound quality that sell for a very reasonable price. I would say they would do the job for 90% of the population of Oz (maybe only 60% of SNAers). Up until I heard the ML1s I would have been happy to go back to the Merlins, for a bookshelf speaker they're good.
Phantom Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Cheers for that. Might have a look just for schits and giggles.
