Rang Gallins, they have 2 in stock at Chapel St store, a heritage cherry and a honey burst.

Also a Light burst in Bourke St,the Allans store, don't think I have the time today to visit today.

They do mention a sale on today, but I am sure I can get a decent price any day walking in with cash :)

Want to get one before new imports come in, in around 5 weeks as the price will rise and i really want a 2013 Trad hehe.

Only real difference between a 2012 and a 2013 Trad is the 2013 has no weight relief, no swiss cheesing of the body, rest would be all the same.

Might just try my hand on a 2013 Standard as well and see how the 60's profile asymmetrical neck feels

Free online guitar lessons wow.

Here's my accoustic Martin D-45

Also got an Ibanez acoustic from the mid 80's, my first guitar a Lonestar. Has a totally different tone to the Martin but still a nice guitar. Also have a PRS custom 22. Haven't had much chance to play much the last few years too busy with darn work.

Been thinking of getting back into it and recording some stuff to my laptop. Anyone know the best setup for recording. Been looking at ezi drummer software, pro tools and M-Box and such. Just after something simple to start with and move on from there.

Will take some outside pics when it's a good day and will get my son to charge up his more proper camera then my cellphone.

It plays great, is heavy at a bit over 10 pounds  (4.6 Kg) and am still dialing it in on my amp.

Different sounding with the 57 Classics as opposed to ones i had in the 50's Tribute.

They react differently, got take gain down a bit and up the volume a bit more over the other ones  ( 490R and 498T) i think they were were

Pretty fat neck, but great feel, very comfy

The weight of Les Pauls was always the thing that put me off.

I always thought I'd never get through a 3 or 4 hour gig with one..............hence my going with the SG.

Hey guys, some news to share re guitars here again ehe.

I've been reading the old Harmony Central musicians forum for a number of years and there is a fellow on there who used to draw pictures of guitars. John Backlund is his name, and a company was started to bring his guitar drawings to life. I loved em.

John Backlund Design, JBD for short, and they made a range of guitars by hand from John's  drawings. http://www.jbacklund.com Pretty expensive guitars they were/are and too rich for my blood.

A bit over a year ago they decided to make a guitar which the masses could afford a little bit better and hence they started a Kickstarter project to raise money and start a line of guitars made in Korea, at the Unsung factory, which makes lots of guitars for other guitar brands.

First project failed with only about half the money raised needed to set up the tool line and as it turned it the factory could do it with that sum of money, so project was restarted and succesful this time around. I pledged $500 for a JBD-800 Hardtail both times around.

They are now retailing this range of guitars in the States with a hardtail and tremolo version and also a bass guitar version, and was great to be part in starting that off as a backer. There were 50 of us backing this project.

The General Manager wanted to hand deliver this one it actually on realising one went to Australia hehe.

Today the guitar had finally arrived and it looks great. not played it yet, just letting it acclimatise a bit first, and so without further ado here are some pics of my JBD-800 Retronix  serial number 2   :) Just one in the country and a special guitar for me due to the story attached to it etc

Crappy cellphone pics  for the moment, still waiting for good weather to take some pics in natural light with a decent camera of both this and my LP Traditionial

Yeah, I need to get a decent day out there and drag em outside and take some pics there instead of inside.

Too dim inside and if I turn a light on its all bad reflections hehe.

New guitar is metallic purple and looks far better then in the noisy pics i just posted. Been playing it a few hours now and its plays well and sounds well.

Pretty chuffed with it, but switching from the fat neck on my LP to this is weird at first, play it a while and its all good. It essentially has a slim 60's Gibson neck profile versus the close to a baseball bat on the Les Paul.

Must be hard for them musos that pick up a different guitar every second song hehe

It's a brilliant little player, after a proper setup preferred gauge strings it plays like a dream. Sure Martin's and Santa Cruz's are better, but for $650, this thing has an amazing tone.

at that price you cant go wrong.

got me tempted now, i love my taylor but wouldnt mind another.

they dont have many in the way of lefties, so could save myself some $$$$   :)

Reviving an old thread, just picked this up...aravupaq.jpgryjaduba.jpgynuvuvug.jpg

It's a Yamaha Dynamic Guitar No 8 from what I can gather its 1950's but not a lot of info on the Google machine, anyone ever seen one, owned one or know anything about them?

Cheers

Hmmm, this could be the answer to my question.

So here's the thing: my son is now 7 and i'm dragging him off to guitar lessons at Manny's. His teacher asked me if I played and i sheepishly admitted that i used to play, but haven't touched a guitar for nearly 20 years. So she suggested that i get one to play along with my son, and the idea of playing again has got me a bit excited. To keep things in perspective (i was only very ordinary even when i played), I was thinking something cheap that will get approval from the ministry of finance.

So at Manny's they have some cheap Cort and Tanglewood steel string acoustics with pickups (and built-in tuner! how cool is that?!... (to someone who hasn't played for so long)) in the $450-600 range, but looking at the Cranbourne music link above i am tempted by the Yamaha FGX720SCA and also the Maton and Taylor minis (although i have never tried a mini size guitar before, but maybe my son could grown into it and use it down the track...).

.. but Jim's wrap for the Sigma has me thinking of that as another possibility. I suppose I should start shopping.... but first: any particular recommendations, folks?

Depends... electric or acoustic?

I own this one (in sunburst)

It's a Talman TCY10 (from Ibanez, they have different colours), I guess it goes for about 200$. I don't know if it's still available thou, I have it about 10 years already.

It's my "good for everything" guitar, since the price isn't too high, you can take it everywhere, and if you find you're playing more, you can always upgrade.

As for electric, can't say. Me personally, would go for a Fender Telecaster now (I already own a '94 Gibson Nighthawk, and wouldn't trade it for the world). But first, I have to find me some guitar lessons as well!

Thanks guys, I meant acoustic or acoustic/electric.

You can certainly find cheap guitars these days, but i would like one that is also very good and will stand the test of time... but less than $1k... hopefully much less!
