Hey everyone,

Just was wondering what people thought of the Technics SB-2055 speakers?

Someone is willing to sell them to me for $100, worth it?

Thanks

I see you've asked this question on whirlpool. Their advice is sound.

Technics is Panasonic under another name for NZ and Australia licensing purposes. In NZ they sold under the name National before Technics.

I sold a pair of (model unknown) Technics speakers from 1979 to friend who still uses them as his main speaker. They are similar in look and dimensions to the SB 2055 and sound actually rather good on his NAD integrated system. In other words, like a lot of speakers they respond well to good gear. On his pair the tweeters aren't domed. Obviously you aren't going to get high end detail or soundstaging.

Also his pair has cut-out (overload) switches and a tweeter volume adjustment knob. Both of which are features that I regret giving up in my quest for better gear. I could have used both those features in the recent past...

IMHO FWIW you could get alternatives that are slightly better at this price, if you spent time looking. On the other hand if you bought the Technics at $100 you aren't going to get ripped off.

Do audition first, to discover any flaws or faults, before handing over the money.

If they're anything like the SB-1950 (they look the same but that doesn't mean a lot) then I'd say yes, unless you want to wait around for a bargain.

I wouldn't have picked mine up, but they they were on the side of the road... I had to give them a go, right?
