OK--it's not a "random car" exactly; but it sure is "of interest" 'cause it's come to live with me!   2017 Porsche 718 Boxster.   At the dealer's, taking delivery. Notice the grin.

Thanks guys. Not my car of course but my Dad deserves all the credit, in his perseverance on first buying it in '69, and in the rebuild.

As I said, I grew up with this car, in fact he's had it longer than he's had me, but there were also other cars of note too. One in particular, a Prince Skyline GT. 2ltr 6cyl with triple webers as standard, pushing 130bhp in the early mid 60's. Not bad. Prince was eventually bought by Nissan where they got the Skyline name from and quite possible the styling cues for the Datsun 1600.

I've owned one of those too. The X19. I had a lovely bronze metallic series1. Unfortunately you have got the Aston in most of the pics. :D  Seriously -- a superb motor vehicle the DB4. Real sports car / grand tourer. Do you know how much it cost new? If it was an early 60's model be towards the end of the production I think...

I grew up with a DB4 as the family transport. It's still in the family now!! See below:

I never got to drive one, but a neighbour of ours "borrowed" a DB4 from a mate of his for a week back in the early 1960s.  I got wedged in the back when he and my old man went out to "test' it.   My old man was a pretty good driver but the other bloke was superb.  I still remember that car.  Absolutely beautiful.  One of the great cars of the last "heydey" of British manufacture.  I'm pretty sure that 1963 or '64 was the last year of manufacture.  Sean Connery drove a DB5 in Goldfinger, I think.

Fez, its a '59 Series 2 DB4. Dad bought it secondhand from a dealer somewhere. I think I have this straight, he sold a car for money to add to the extra money he already had plus traded a car in to get the AM. In its day it wouldn't have been cheap, possibly multiple '000s of dollars, similar in pricing to a small house at the time. It is definitely his most cherished material possession, of incomprehensible value. He has told me if he was offered $1 mill for it he wouldn't sell. And he's not one to make flippant statements like that.

Brumby, i used to sit on a cushion on what was known by myself and the siblings as 'the hump', the moulding in the flooorpan (and therefore seat) over the diff. So yeah, the back seat doesn't bring back very comfortable memories!

At least I got to sit on a small mattress in the back of an Austin A30 van...more comfortable...lesser car...significantly lesser car...Rob

Some found it rather uncomfortable, but still, an endearing advertisement.

Nice one Jake. Great looking vehicle. Very successful car for Ford the Lincoln, and the Continental, looking for a Europea type influence. Hence the name...Luxury brand for Ford. Love those 50-60's car adverts.

To offer double the warranty at the time was very exciting and no doubt won a lot of sales...
