gulfsentinel Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Hi Everyone, I'm new here. I got the following system about six months ago and am thinking of adding a Rega DAC. Amp: Cambridge Audio Azur 350A CD: Cambridge Audio Azur350C Speakers: Audiopro Wigo W-160 Cables: QED The speakers are a bit shy on bass and I'm looking for more clarity and a punchier bass. Plan to use QED Signature Coaxial digital cables to hook up the Rega to my CD player. Question is whether its worth the money spent. Appreciate suggestions/recommendations
oldrose Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Hmm, your Amp and CD player are nicely balanced and there's nothing wrong with the QED cables. I haven't heard the speakers but with a passive radiator, if you feel you're shy on bass then the DAC wouldn't be where I'd spend money, I'd look at different Speakers or maybe an upgrade to your amp. The CA 651 (or the Rega Brio if you want the DAC at a later stage) would provide more power and should give you a kick in the bass. Speaker placement in your room may also be something you could play around with for free. 1
sound dust Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Hmm the Dac is not normaly the place to look to add bass. Having said that, I have a rega dac and I do really like the way it handles bass. Very analogue in nature and from memory a lot of the reviewers have commented on the fact the rega dac may add a little more bass than there is. I still think you are best to look at your speakers or amp, as you move up the tree, these components tend to do bass better. Certainly in my case as I upgraded over time. 1
twwen2 Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Agree with the comments above; if you want more bass you should look at changing your speakers first. Also, I have the Rega DAC and have compared it to several others around the same price bracket - the Rega isn't as strong in the bass as some of them. 1
HumanMedia Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 As a Rega Dac owner, I'd say that it's one weakness is it bass. Sure it's bass abve 100hz is fine but it is poor at lower bass. In fact if its lower bass was better it would trounce many DACs twice it's price. I'd echo the suggestions to get better speakers. And don't waste a cent on the digital interconnect, just get standard blue jeans coax at around $20
