Nada Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Has anyone viewed this Kogan ? It features a "Samsung Widescreen Full HD LED (Edge lit LED LCD panel)" Obviously it doesnt have Samsung integrated quality build and engine but for those of us who think 3D / "Smart" internet connectivity features are superfluous maybe this is a descent buy? But what is the picture quality like compared to a Samsung?
Sham droid Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Just ordered the 3d. Kogan stuff is brilliant value for money - very hard to go past! Had some of their stuff in the past and was very happy with it - great picture quality, natural colors, and perfectly reliable while I owned it. Now I'm using a kogan led screen and 3d bluray for the HT and even bought one of their microwaves for downstairs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
rantan Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Nada. Whatever you do or buy please don't buy a Kogan anything. It is absolute crap and quite often not that much cheaper than a reputable brand anyway. Warranty servicing is a nightmare and some of the TV panels are actually prone to catching fire. I have personal knowledge of many instances of really major faults that caused their owners nothing but grief and sometimes a hazzard. In the end, it's your money, but I wouldn't like to see anyone buy this rubbish, it's just not worth it and Mr Kogan is a tout for the "little Aussie Battler" image, saving people from rip offs by the major brands. Let's just say that his claims are very debatable , his wording very colourful and that he is skilled only in the art of self promotion. 1
Braddles 63 Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Looks like you can get a similar real Samsung 55" at JB's for not much more. http://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-lcd-led-plasma/samsung/55-inch-full-hd-100hz-led-lcd-tv-sku-84780/
Sham droid Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Hmmm, fair to recount anothers experience, but have you personally tried the stuff? I was flamed on another forum for suggesting that Azzurri bikes should be given a go - they use a business model similar to Kogan; Internet based sales, largely copied tech and Chinese made. For a training bike, the one I have is brilliant - it sits beside 3 top-shelf S-Works beauties in my garage that are the 'real-deal', but in truth there's not a lot that separates them, save for the extra $8k each I spent on the S-Works' bikes. Funnily enough, those prepared to flame me in that thread had never actually experienced an Azzurri, nor did most of them realize that I owned other bikes that most of them could only dream of owning. My PERSONAL experience (not someone else's that I read or heard about) has been fantastic, and dealing with them online suits me perfectly. After-sales support has been great, as is my experience with Kogan also. I bought a Kogan originally after a friend had replaced a dead Panasonic with one in his pool room. It was meant to be temporary but it's not missed a beat and I prefer the picture over many high-end screens - he still uses it every day. MY experience so far has been great. Do I care if everybody runs to their PC and buys a Kogan product? Hell no! Buy a brand name if you want kudos from your friends.... On a side note, while I'm sure there are faults with some of their products, the company is one of Australia's fastest growing - in ANY segment. With so many new customers, little loyalty and an unknown brand I'm surprised there isn't more coverage of what's 'wrong' with their products or how they do things, as is so often the Australian way. ... I can't wait to read the conspiracies that this post conjures! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Vortexjah Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 SMH magazine believes you can do better for the same money http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/hometech/kogan-tvs--you-can-do-better-for-the-same-money-20111214-1otj6.html Article is a year old though. Maybe quality has increased. The downside is they are internet only, so you cant view before you buy. I was in dick smith the other day and i thought the picture quality on the Dick Smith Branded tvs were not bad,i felt i could easily live with one, especially for a second room, or would be good for a kids room, the samsung and the sonys next to them probably had the slight edge, although i believe the Samsung and Sony tvs at Dick Smith are low models in the range. When it comes to tvs, you really have to go to the shop and look for yourself, specs dont mean **** if the panel is crap. Another note on Kogan, i bought a cyclonic vacuum cleaner from them, and its never missed a beat, i have had it for almost a year now. I had a shitty woolworths one before that, which had crap suction and stopped working after 3 months. Also their apple products are listed cheaper than you find in a lot of places, but you still have to factor in shipping charges, best bang for buck with apple is the refurb store or second hand.
Nada Posted September 27, 2012 Author Posted September 27, 2012 Thanks guys for the excellent opinions. Im sticking to a Samsung but a student friend on a budget can afford either the new Kogan or a second hand Samsung. I think she will get the Kogan. At least there's some warranty. Im still amazed Kogan can do it so cheap.
rantan Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 If any established member wants to get some interesting and truthful information about some actual experiences with Kogan products feel free to PM me.
Tony M Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Rantan I'm intrigued! The thought of someone of your discernment having any personal experience with Bogan Kogan defies credibility. I'm guessing we're not talking about your own purchases? Anyway, I don't need an more info than I have already to be quite convinced buying Kogan would be a bad idea and likely to end in tears.

Hi Tony. I have oft times been cited as possessing an eclectic character, but my faults do not run to rampant insanity. To put it mildly I would not use Kogan equipment even if it was free. I also think that many people like yourself can easily make the sensible judgement and give this rubbish a wide berth 1
firefly0071 Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I want support and warranty locally. No shipping across the world.
mondie Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 When i read this thread I though of this from last week:
unclemack Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Is Kogan the '80's Masuda Oh Yes...I remember Masuda very well... Cheers M
rantan Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 SHAM DROID. How very apt. Sorry about the caps, I wasn't actually shouting..... just pointing out a likely possibility
cableconnoisseur Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Oh Yes...I remember Masuda very well... Cheers M Sold the proverbial truck load of 'em whilst @ Dandy Sound, which became Douglas Hi-Fi, which then reverted to Brashs' Dandenong. Masuda and Sherwood gear................the life-blood of Brashs........

Saxon Hall Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Kogan seems to really fire people up. Over on the DTV Forum they have huge bun fights about that brand. Quite a lot of it seems to be quite personal about Ruslan Kogan himself. I note that he has just made the BRW Young Rich List so maybe some of it is envy. I do not own anything from Kogan nor do I know anyone who does but I find the extreme reaction he generates very interesting. In my travels I find that there is often little price difference between Kogan and lower end lines from more established brands. Each to their own. 1
Sham droid Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 (edited) SHAM DROID.How very apt. Sorry about the caps, I wasn't actually shouting..... just pointing out a likely possibility Haha, wouldn't that be easy... But alas, no - not quite! I don't read too much into threads or comments like this or those herein... Forums are cool places for a plethora of different information based largely on opinions that often take precedent over fact. I enjoy a chat, appreciate and respect the thoughts and opinions of others - even If, and especially when they differ from my own - at the same time as having enough confidence in myself to state and stand by my own experience and opinion. Am I an advocate for Kogan...? I guess... Based on my experience, why wouldn't I be? Do I feel the need to belittle those that don't agree? Nope, not really... However, I think it takes a rather weak individual to take a derogatory stance on such things given the weight - or more pertinent, lack thereof - of the topic at hand. It makes me giggle, and I sympathize a little for those who feel justified in acting in such a way. Of course, the thought doesn't last long. metal beat Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 (edited) A guy at work bought the kogan 55 inch as it was so cheap. He said the FTA TV guide on the kogan is absolute garbage compared to his Samsung 55 inch. The pq is OK but not as good as his 3 year old samsung. He bought it for his kids in the game room, but it could not be his main TV. Edited September 30, 2012 by turntable 2

Still selling lots of Sherwood now in fact... can't keep a good man down. Cheers M
rantan Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 Sherwood is a worthy budget brand, unlike Kogan which is not only rubbish, but some of it is also potentially hazardous in use.
agisthos Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Kogan are great for discounted name brand products, like Canon/Nikon DSLR's, as long as you are prepared to wait weeks for shipping from the other side of the world. But never buy anything from them that is 'Kogan' branded. They find chinese factories producing sub standard products and just slap their name on them. The TV's are the worst, as it's the electronics that determine picture quality, not the glass panel. And you will find the Kogan brand TV will only be 10-15% cheaper than a Samsung, which is far better. 1
