I wanted to share my experience of dealing with Bryan Byrt Skoda (Mount Gravatt) with everyone on StereoNet.

On Thursday of last week I agreed to purchase a demo car for $15990 on the road. I signed the paperwork which the dealer assured me would be sent through by email. I never received the paperwork, but didn't think anything of it. Volkswagen Financial Services provided the interest rate over the phone and everything seemed quite reasonable.

Today, I went to pick up the car. I almost signed everything without a second though, when I noticed the amount to be financed was an extra thousand dollars $16990. $700 for dealer administration charge, the other $300 wasn't even itemised. Also there was $398 for loan a establishment, which wasn't disclosed when I was given the finance details over the phone (only the interest rate and repayment amount).

Needless to say, I told them to forget it. The dealer tried to tell me that I was getting a good deal, and that the $700 dealer admin and the other $300 were part of the finance. I took the bus home. The dealer phoned and said the $300 was for "bits and bobs, such as stamp duty" - what a bunch of chancers. I would have been paying a total of $16990 + an extra $398 (not telling me about this I could have put down to an oversight).

I owned a Skoda when i was living in the UK; their dealership network is second to none and they consistently come out top in customer satisfaction surveys. I think Skoda Australia will struggle if this is an example of their dealership network.

I'll be looking for a new car this weekend.

You'd probably do just as well to look at the same car at a different Skoda dealer.

IME thats what it comes down to, not the parent company. They'd have very little to do with it, again IME.

Totally agree with this

However $ xoxoxo on road drive away to me means just that

Car dealers are just one level up from Amoeba on the evolutionary scale (and I'm insulting Amoeba by stating this). Never trust them.

I would expect that type of treatment from a dodgy second-hand car dealer - not from an authorised dealer!

I bought a new car early this year for a touch under 30k. Straight changeover deal with my trade in. A couple of weeks later I had a reason to ring the dealership and I asked for the salesman I had dealt with. Never heard of him, no one here by that name I was told.I insisted that I was not mistaken and that I had his business card in front of me. Again I was told no one by that name. Thinking that maybe I was dreaming the whole thing up ( like JR dreaming up two whole seasons of episodes in Dallas) I was about to reach for a stiff drink when the receptionist suddenly remembered that yes they did have someone by that name and she would put him on the line. The same routine was repeated about a month later. Maybe they think that customers only ring up to complain so they are terrified to accept the call after the sale is done and dusted. Strange species, the car salesperson. Maybe Sir David Attenborough could study them?

Just a quick update: In the guys at Bryan Byrt came good in the end, and even threw in a load of extras as way of an apology. I ended up getting a spectacular deal - saving thousands off the list price.

That bloody derails the thread. We were just getting into the character assassination! :)

Well, not such a good outcome after all. I have asked them several times, through email and telephone calls, a couple of simple things. Such as:

1. Would it be possible to have a copy of the sales invoice?

2. When is the car due for a service? I bought it with just 25km on the clock - computer says it's due in 300 days, sticker on window says Nov (1 year after rego)

3. Can you please order some carpet mats - you would think that would be easy enough.

They are bloody useless and I would never buy a car there again.
