I'm waiting for my dream Airplay device.

It would have to be a Blue ray disc player with twin digital recievers and a terabyte of on board disc space.

This device would have UPNP and DNLA media streaming capabilities but would also include internet radio and web services such iView, Big Pond and Netflix.

Available on a network, the on board drive can be accessed by anyone on the network, even over the internet.

The best thing about this wonderful device is that any technically inept member of my family never has to ring me up at work to ask me how to get the DVD player to work because they do not understand the concept of selecting the right source! Thats right, I want a single source unit that does everything and simply connects to the amplifier and TV.

PC's and ipods connect wirelessly via Airplay but it will also host a digital and usb input.

There will only be one remote control. Even my mother can use it.

Any suggestion??

A combination of these two systems is what i'm looking for. Not to mention tech savvy family members.

Lost my reply to this post after the site crash the other day, so lets say it again.

Apple TV uses airplay as a way of streaming audio and video from your Apple or PC server via Itunes and a few other Airplay capable applications.

It's not a bad little player however it will not connect to a external USB volume and relies on your computer being on in order to act as the server.

Of all the capabilities detailed in my wish list Apple TV only does about two of them.

Not a bad little unit though. Nowhere near as flexible as a WDTV, which I have.

Cheers

Oppo 105

Yes the Oppo's look great and come highly reccomended.

It could be argued that the disc format is staring redundancy in the face and that virtually everything I play is in file format.

I'm starting to lean very heavily towards a Mac Mini with Eye TV, however I believe it won't read Blue Ray discs

I've got a Mac Mini in the 2ch system that also includes an Oppo95. Use Audirvana on the Mini and it works well. I've got an outboard Apple SuperDrive for the Mini but don't generally use it for music playback. I think there's an external LaCie Bluray drive available and some software available now that can drive it with BluRays, but Macs haven't been big on compatibility with BluRay.

The futurist in me thinks that all disc formats will fade away eventually and it's all going to be on-line content/delivery.

Yes i think I agree with you. MOG and Spotify open up a whole new way of accessing and listening to music. It's such a great way to get reccomendations and discover similar artists. And whilst the quality is not as good as cd, it's still well and truley good enough.

With the forseable introduction of Netflix in Australia we can kiss goodbye to hardware and storage requirements.
