In the distance near future .....

2ch AMP to run my Adelaide Speakers M823PR 3-way Standmounts.

Cabinet: 500h x 245w x 315d 24 litre bass reflex

Power Handling: 125 wrms

Nominal Impedance: 8 ohms

Frequency Response: 44 -- 40,000 Hertz +/-2dB (with output right up to 40,000 Hertz)

Sensitivity: 91 dB 1w/1m

Drivers: Peerless Nomex reinforced cone 225 mm die-cast basket HDS woofer (180 mm diameter piston size) with modification to magnetic gauss; Peerless 120 mm midrange; ribbon tweeters crossing over at 2500Hz with response extending beyond 40,000 Hertz for use with high sampling rate digital masters

Description: This is a unique and super detailed 3-way monitor. The superb micro detail of the ribbon driver lets you hear exactly what is going on. The HDS Peerless nomex bass, and fibreglass cone midrange, have a very clean, level non resonant response when controlled by our highly tuned crossover.

..... Using Laptop>USB>(SPDIF/DAC)>AMP>Speakers

Looking to achieve .... (over my Marantz SR7002 AV Receiver).

- Hearing more detail and layering of music, specially in complex and busy music. Less Blur, more clarity.

Some thought on Hypex Ncore D-Class

What interface would I go between Laptop and the New Amp?

Music Files I use are 16-24bit (44.1-96Khz) FLAC and WAV.

Hi Ronsound,

Just to clarify what you're asking, do you already have a USB/SPDIF converter and DAC, and if so which are they? Or are you asking for advice on which to buy (in addition to your main question about which amp to buy)?

And secondly, I take it you're looking for an integrated amp? Do you need multiple inputs or just the one input from the DAC?

Hi Andreasmaaan,

Yes, I have a V-Link for USB>SPDIF.

The AMP only needs one input (only using laptop as music transport), so it could be a power amp, if I have some pre.

I am trying out an Emotiva xda-1 DAC, so could use this as a pre.

There is a lot of choice in the sub $1500 market. Trevor Lees has some exposure 2010S power amps for about $1100, a Plessis S1 or Rega Brio R will set you back about $1000 (both integrateds) and Denon, Yamaha and Rotel (and about 2 dozen other brands) all have integrateds priced just over and/or just under $1000. You should be spoilt for choice in that price bracket. Those speakers of yours do not seem to be difficult to drive either. The best option is one where you can demo of course, RaoR's kind offer would be the first one I would try out in your place.

Looking at "The Quasimodo" from Richard McDonald.

He is local. Can tweak or mod if needed for personal taste.

Going to auction a local who has one of his amps.

Audio is a journey .....

I would recommend a Jungson J88D Integrated. Plenty of power, and it's a huge motha too, but sounds tube like. Should have heaps of change from $1500.

Can run pretty warm so needs ventilation, but the synergy with Lenehan ML1 Plus speakers I used to run was brilliant.

...and the saying is a cliche that is so over used around here it is almost meaningless. :)

Don't worry, I am just in my cliche busting mode.
